Revisiting the school yard scene. The Stunt mask

What about the neck looking very white right after this scene when the Shape is walking to his car? I don’t have a screen shot (maybe someone can help) but it’s clear as day in the previous transfers. Could this just be a shadow effect?

The thing I never understood was why did they use the stunt mask instead of the hero in this scene? After all, there is no “stunt” taking place in this scene.

Probably 2nd Unit shooting.

HALLOWEEN had the money, crew and cameras for a second unit photography? I think they knew they were going to be shooting the Shape from head down, but used this mask JUST IN CASE they captured anything above the neck.

Didn’t this mask have larger eyeholes cut? maybe because they knew he’d have to drive while wearing it for a little but I’m not sure is it’s the same mask throughout

Filmakers today would probably consider driving with a full head mask to be a “stunt” and hire a stunt actor to do the scene. We’re pretty positive it’s Castle driving the car, right? So maybe they did cut the eyeholes bigger on that one specifically. If “stunt mask A” (from the definitive guide on this site) is the one used. The eyeholes are wider but not too much bigger.

Also, the scene in the car with Annie and Laurie talking about Ben Tramer…guess what? Yup. Second unit…Debra Hill directed that scene.

It is Nick driving the Car, you can see his stretch in the scene when he turns to look at Tommy Doyle, and you can see him in the mask when driving past Loomis in the background, he’s looking at traffic

That’s right! Excellent! I didn’t even put two and two together, but I did know Debra went out and shot pick ups to connect certain scenes. Good stuff!
