the first movie that terrified me… 
It was this one and Jaws for me in my pre-JC’s Halloween childhood. I feel they have both stood the test of time very well
Edit… Also Romero’s Night of the Living Dead 
And just before the 50th anniversary of his terrifying, game changing movie, too.
My parents’ first date was to the original The Exorcist. I may very well not even exist without William Friedkin.
