Rubie's Deluxe Overhead Michael Myers Mask

Has this been discussed at all on the board? I just saw this on Halloweenmovies Twitter account. Not sure what to think. Looks from the picture that it could finally be a decent mask but there are some flaws and based off Rubie’s past I feel like this is a last ditch effort to save the licensing rights from going to TOTS (which I hope they definitely do go to). What do you guys think?

It’s a big improvement over their other attempts. I can see this having potential if the right hands of a good converter.

Oh look, Rubies unveiled their least terrible iteration yet, just in time for them to lose the license to TOTS! :stuck_out_tongue:

That face sculpt looks identical to the old molded hair mask you find in party city. Looks like they took that, extended the neck and gave it hair. Lazy

Yep! Way too little, waaay too late if you ask me.

Saw some copies of this mask on the sculptors Instagram page, but damned if I can’t remember who the hell it was. They looked shitty anyway, and the dude thought he was the shit because he did his terrible sculpt quickly compared to other sculptors, and rubies chose it over the other sculpts. Seemed like a real ass…

Just goes to show though that if time was taken their masks could be better quality. But today it’s what you can put onto the market for the least money to gain the most profit. The Late Don Post Studios and now Rubies have proven this with the crappy Myers masks produced over the years. I can remember as far back as 1998 they were s***. Very excited for TOTS to get the rights next year. Can’t wait for H1, H4 and H5 masks.

I would buy this mask and use it for my outdoor Halloween display. I wouldn’t feel too bad if it got snatched!
If you want the good stuff just save and get the good stuff!

I looked at the picture closely, and my copy of the WMP JTK and this mask is no other than a recasted enlarged JTK. Also the markings are there, brows, the lines above the left brow, right side cheek line, the lips. The difference being is mine looks better. Good job Rubies for taking something that isn’t yours and recasting it.

Dude, that’s just… ugh! So glad they’re getting their producing rights yanked.

I don’t see enough personally to believe its a recastes jtk, but I do think it is an obvious resculpt of the mask Dennis made for them. Improved as far as the stock photos show but I can promise you the real thing looks more like poo. Fact.

I love how someone here can recast an actual screen used mask to make a great reproduction and everyone’s all " yay!" But when an outside source or company looks like they did basically the same thing it becomes “grab your torch and pitch forks!”

To be fair, there are only a small handful of masks made for each film, and buying one of those would cost at least $4-5,000, maybe $1,000 for a blank or something never put on screen from the Dimension era, while a JTK can be bought for $150-250. Usually the recasts come from people who bought a screen used mask or blank, or in the case of SSN or ToTS had permission from the filmmakers.

To be fair, recasting is recasting regardless of the conditions. I’m by no means starting or attempting to start any arguments I just see things in a different light these days

The point is Rubies took something that wasn’t theirs to begin with from an independent artist who makes a honest living selling the masks he makes by hand. Malek had a copy of the JTK on hand and thus this mask was made by recasting it.

All I see is a crap recast JTK, LMAO!

The one picture off to the side looks decent but staring at it straightforward you can easily tell how horrible it is. How long till 2016? TOTS needs that license and soon, for the love of God.

Does anyone actually own one of these masks? Would like to see some other photos of it worn besides the crappy stock photos…I mean for 40$ it doesn’t look that bad…a little of this and that and I’m sure it will make for some nice pics.

Maybe but Rubie’s had three plus years to do something like that and waited till they were about to lose the rights to come up with something halfway decent. Too little, too late if you ask me.

I’m just on the 40$ kick is all. When money is tight and something affordable like this comes up, I tend to want to jump on it. All mask politics aside and drama about this and that, this is a decent mask finally from a company that’s been around since the 50’s for 40$! Sounds better than 300 plus dollars and up to a year wait! I have kids, and this is great for them. And maybe even a novice converter can mess with it without feeling worried about F’ing it up, cause its not some 200$ blank. Idk. I just want to see it now.

I got my Sinister Studios Sinister75 for $55
