finally sat down to take some pics of my new destroyer.
man this is an AWESOME mask and to me at least is hands down THE very best and most accuracy oriented H9 out there.
Notes on the entire suit:
The carhartts are H10, I will eventually buy H9 accurate ones but these will suffice for the time being. these ones where aged and weathered using pics of the screen used coveralls, hopefully i did a good job and I do thing they look way better than the first time I showed them in here.
The knife is scratchbuilt by me and will eventually swap it for a Forschner 19 incher like the ones used in the movie.
I’m training to get rid of the tummy and bulk up on muscle so I can look the part better.
on to the pics:

I simply love it! it fits my frame perfectly and doesn’t make me look like a bobble head.
First off Congrats on your new score and a very warm welcome to Club Destroyer Bro,i own the proto #1 and have to Agree that Destroyer is the most screen accurate to date,Some hardcore Buried owners and fans won’t admit this though well i also own a Top notch Buried and while it ruled the roost for accuracy Destroyer has taken over and im not one to hide from the truth so there you have it. your copy looks amazing also and you wear it perfectly and some of those close ups worn look straight off the set and i don’t think your shape for costume is not bad man’ not bad at all,Thanks for Sharing Buddy
thanks a bunch man! I appreciate the comments. I do think the buried clean version is spot on in accuracy to the clean version young Mikey used to kill his sister in the movie but for the old and weathered version the Destroyer is the one. the way it changes expression depending on angle and lighting is just like the movie version used to do and Russ’s cutting, painting, weathering and hairing is spot on.
I’ll be taking and receiving some sceen caps from members at WMP and i’ll be doing side by side comparisons trying to get the same angles and lighting as the screen caps and then we can compare in full.
This is a nice mask! However, getting on the subject about accuracy…IMO the buried wins. The sculpt is more accurate…the nose and just overall structure is more accurate. The head on shots and side shots of the buried do it for me. If you look at the side view from the film, and the side view of the buried(buzznet) its clear that its basically dead on. Whereas the destroyer no so much. I believe the buried is like $100+ more and i believe that you pay for what you get…more quality. Take a look below:
Which one is more accurate? It all depends on what scene youre looking at. End of story. There are some scenes that the Destroyer captures better, there are some scenes that The Buried captures better. It all depends on what screen caps youre looking at, and whos head its on. The RZ mask is no different than the Original Hero. What head its on, lighting, how much has the mask been stretched and thrown around, what scene it is, it all matters. Which is why both masks are popular. I mean just look at the heros. There are (i think) 3 different masks used in RZ H1, and even they all look different, so you cant expect the Buried or the destroyer to pull of every scene. There are only a few people who have seen both together, side by side, in person. Some say buried, some say destroyer, I say both. It all depends on what copy of the Buried and Destroyer you are at looking at as well. ive seeb some great Burieds, and ive seen some that dont look that great, just as im sure copies of the destroyer also vary. But for those of you that like the Destroyer better, Im flattered and appreciate your comments, and love seeing your photos. just as i assume Scott and the buried creator are flattered every time they hear someone say that the Buried is better. Ive actually seen some rude comments from alot of people on the matter, and it is totally uncalled for. They are both great masks.
You simply cannot beat the Destroyer imo. The Buried has something that’s just “off” to me. Something about how wide the neck is maybe? It also doesn’t seem to have as much detail.
Either way, getting a Destroyer done up by Russ or Scott will turn out great. They know what they are doing when it comes to remake masks. I love the one Russ did up for me and it will stay in the collection for a LONG time.
I do agree on the subject on who’s head its on. Iv’e seen a couple of Buzznets and Destroyers on people and some of them just can’t pull the Tyler look off only a few do. Remember guys this mask was made to fit Tyler’s huge head, they are both great masks and nothing beats theses 2 masks hands down. But in the end it comes down to the paint and hair job to really bring it to life.
Fantastic Shots man i need to save for one, and there were 3 cleans and 6 scarreds made for the movie. so those 6 masks are not gonna look dead on the exact same to the same paint marks on them.
I appreciate the comments heaps! and I have to agree with Russ here: Both the Buried and the Destroyer are awesome masks but they do pick different times in the movie.
to me for example the clean Buried is PERFECT in accuracy to the clean mask used in the scenes when young Mikey kills his family. Hands down. No discussion there. When I can get the cash for one I will as for the clean look the Buried it is the king of RZs BUT the Destroyer pulls off the Buzznet and most of the old and weathered looking masks of the rest of the movie. in the end it is a matter or choice I guess as beauty is in the eye of the beholder But just to boost my point, I’ve compared a lot of the Buried user pics with movie stills and I do believe the Buried’s shapes and details are a bit overdone while the Destroyer is more subtle. Making the details stronger will help in capturing shadows better and that will appeal to some people. I like the subtle details better and just to add to it I just created this thread:
in it I show a side by side comparison of my destroyer (being worn by your’s truly) with screen caps I googled in a jiffy (Shots courtesy of my bro in law Eric)
with the exception of the fact that since my mask is not tucked under the neck of the coveralls (with shapes the neck in a more thick and tubelike manner as in the movie) the rest of the pics look dead on.
as Russ says, no harsh, flaming, bashing or hateful comments should be needed to defend one or the other as both attack a certain type of scene or look in the movie and since they are both different sizes the wearer can do great of just crap it when wearing it.
Myself, I prefer the Destroyer for size and subtle accuracy but that does not mean I dislike the buried at all and me praising it and posting comparison shots MUST NOT be taken or understood as an attempt to attack the Buried or it’s creators or fans. Please don’t rub it that way.
Thanks for the comments on how i wear the suit and mask! I really appreciate it! the weathering on the carhartts was made using the recently (and awesome) posted shots of the screen used H9 carhartts used by Tyler. the details where fun to pick up and I tried to go as accurate as I could with them… shame they’re H10 hospital scene ones instead of H9s… but that’s what i got and i do what I can with what I have.
