RZH1 First ever rehaul TOT mask

Today, I had the great idea to give the mask a new first thin layer of matte creme white acrylic paint spray. I sprayed from a distance if approx. 30-40 cm and it looked quite nice. White again! When it felt dry I gave the mask a slight black wash, but as soon as it got wet the white acrylic layer began to crumble off the mask so I was forced to peel it all off once again.
Oh boy…

I recognized that I cannot avoid the liquid latex. So next time I’ll give it an all new first layer of grey white aryclic paint mixed 1:1 or 2:1 with liquid latex so that it hopefully sticks well on the mask. Then I’ll do the black wash, highlighting the cracks and finally seal the whole thing with the one and only PLASTI DIP which I bought for about 20,- EUR.

Does this sound okay for you? Any advices for the right colour of the upcoming new basic layer before doing the black wash?

Sounds fine by me! Little is known about the paint process for the RZ mask in the films, though it’s probably safe to assume it may have used an airbrush with liquid latex paint. Just make sure you brush it on in light layers so you avoid any of those paint dots all around, and seal it before you do the washes

Oh… sealing with Plasti Dip before doing washes? Not after the wash as the final step?

I’d seal before the washes! I’ve done this on past masks such as my hero Kills mask and H40. The seals don’t have to be thick, generally you wouldn’t want that anyways for any seal because it could slightly alter the tone if sprayed too closely and thickly. Basically the washes sort of weaken the paint if its not sealed, but you do whatever you feel is best!

When doing a black wash AFTER sealing the painted mask with Plasti Dip, a rubber spray, how does the wash stick to the mask without a lotus effect?

It still sticks pretty well, thats why you just do a thin layer or two. Are you doing the wash for the cracks and damage or to change the color of the mask?

Both. I would do the black (or dark brown-blackish?) wash for highlighting the cracks AND for the way more dirtier look of the mask.

At the moment, it is white again after I painted it with a mixture of a light grey white tone and nearly 1:1 liquid latex. It is drying now…

Dark white again! Sealed with Plasti Dip, still very smooth and flexible.

Final steps?

Awesome! Now you can do your wash. The plasti dip will guard the base paint better now, I can back this up from past experience using unsealed washes. So after the wash you’re done right?

May be. Or should I paint the cracks with dark brown, may be mixed with yellow OR very bright green OR leave them as they are because the cracks look more ‘realistic’ left unpainted? I will wear a black hood under the mask so that the eyes are ‘black’.

What kind of wash (colour) should I finally do? I already did one (beige):

Looks great dude. I really like how it turned out👍

Thanks!
What would you finally do with it?
Final wash? If so: What colour?
Painting the cracks? If so: What colour?

I would use brown paint mixed with a small amount of black paint.

But don’t add too much black because it’ll appear too dark then

I think I got it… “final” final pics coming soon…

So… this is it. I think I won’t get it better… only worse. Yesterday, I wanted to improve the colour of the nose, as a result it turned GREEN! :see_no_evil:
It was hard to get the shade of the colour nearly fitting with the rest again but I managed it and I am very proud of that. Now I have to face: It is done. It is finally done. Fingers off! I have to look for a new hobby.

I think it looks nicely distressed. After the photos I also finished the hairline.

I love that worn distressed yellow look it has now. And that brown black wash worked really well, it looks awesome. Love that hair too

Thank you very much. Now I put a ton of hair gel into the hair and now it’s like concrete.
