Sartain a metaphor for the fans?

Dont know if this has been discussed before but i was recently watching h18 again and found it funny that sartain seems to be a fan of the shape but gone mad. I actually had a few laughs about it since from the moment he is introduced i started analyzing his sentences and behaviour and its not that far off from some of halloween fans. He is obsessed with michael and anything related to him, including laurie strode. When he finally meets her his reaction is not that different from a fan meeting JLC for example. He is also obsessed with the mask and even puts it on, not that different from us fans who are equally obsessed with the masks. And finally, he is also obsessed in reuniting laurie with michael, moving the chess pieces so their paths can cross in the movie, kinda like the fans wanting a movie that reunites JLC with the shape. He wants to be michael and feel what it is to take a human life, while the fans wont go as far as that of course (i hope not) the way we obsess and cosplay and want to acquire the movie accurate mask, boots, coveralls and even the knives, we want to “inhabit” the character, its not that far off from Sartain’s obsession in the film. Just kinda funny and to me it adds another layer to the movie.

Very interesting insight, I wonder if that was intentional by the film makers (probably not but it would be funny)

I never had a problem with sartain because I saw his death as the cleansing from all the magic cult stuff and a return to form for the franchise

Very cool haha i never thought of it that way. Kind of makes me appreciate what they did even more.
He’s the exact opposite of Loomis which i found interesting, Loomis wanted Michael dead, where as Sartain wanted him unharmed.
Laurie “you’re the new Loomis” we all thought that but he’s really not.

You know what, that’s a great theory! That and the cleansing of the cult/protector of Michael plot lines, both of those can explain Sartain! Very nice outlook on it! It makes a hell of a lot more sense when looking at it that way, and I can get on board with that for sure! I like it!

I never minded the Sartain aspect, but this is a great way to explain it!

Well, that and he was a plot device to bring Laurie and Michael together, because even though Sartain felt Michael wanted to pursue Laurie, he really didn’t want a damn thing to do with her until Sartain drove them to Laurie’s property! And even then he was simply following Alysson which led him the rest of the way there.

Great outlook on it, Sartain represents a few different aspects of the franchise when you take all of these into account.

Interesting take

I thought this when I saw the film. Don’t study it, don’t look into it, don’t try to understand it. Just kill it, otherwise it may turn you into it. Zombie’s movies tried to look into it and study it with possible explanations etc… missed the whole point of The Shape

The metaphor for Sartain is pretty simple, he is a murderous liar. He is a character masquerading as someone who is good and moral in order to create a false sense of comfort. When everyone is complacent, his cruel motives come forward. SARTAIN “SATAN R I” or “I R SATAN” he is the narrative manifestation of the satanic archetype of treachery and cruelty. When I watched the film, I thought “That’s an interesting anagram, I’m guessing we probably shouldn’t trust this guy”. Turned out to be true.
