There are parts in Zombies Halloween II that seriously revere the best elements of the original.
The hospital sequence is a great throwback to the chase scene from Carpenters 1978 original and managed to build upon that with great use of suspense.
Laurie walking around the town square and looking over her shoulder as if she senses someone is watching.
The character of Mya was more of a Laurie Strode type character akin to the 1978 version. She was quite timid and mousey in ways and wanted to stay in on Halloween night to look after Laurie rather than go out and party.
Michael quietly appearing from behind the tree to kill the cop homages the 1978 shape very well.
The whole build up into Annies death and discovery was very elemental of the 1978 version. Michael watching Annie from afar before he strikes. Then when the girls arrive back to the Brackett house, Michael still in the house moving about silently and unseen by the girls. There is also a great shot in the theatrical cut of the exterior of the Brackett house with Michael passing by the upstairs window.
I think it is great the Zombie maintained these fundamentals and seamlessly incorporated them into his vision.
