Just got back from shopping at Spirit Halloween as usual, and dropping pretty pennies even just on these two masks alone ($130 for both $69.99 for the new Trick or Treat Studios Halloween Michael Myers 78 and $59.00 for the 81 retail plus tax) even with 20% off, plus other stuff I will show later on. But those coupons help lol. Great copies of the new 1978 and another H2 Deluxe regular version since I have the blood tears already. I love the weathering on this H2 Deluxe also and the H78 is great, with the cleaner white look and perfect sculpt that represents the Nick Castle look perfectly. Same goes for the H2 as well. So stoked to have a great H1 mass produced mask finally and love the H2 as well! Lots more pics to come when I do the costume/life-sized later on, was gonna take some more pics now but it is pouring outside and thundering, perfect weather for Halloween shopping though lol. I love the cleaner look of the H1 like it was in the beginning of the film, after it was freshly painted and might also do some shading and/or weathered ones later on as I said, awesome masks! Should be fun to do the H1 costume/life-sized now as well as the H2 again soon! Lots more pics to come!
Thanks yeah I picked the best ones there after scrutinizing them for like 15 minutes being the perfectionist and OCD artist that I am lol. Mostly just the ones with the least bald spots, hair thinning, paint chips, proper cuts, etc. But overall they are all good and was only two of each lol. I can get the others later on and weather them maybe if they are still there later on.
I just stopped at my local Spirit Halloween today and picked up a second H78, and grabbed this cool H6 fleece blanket while I was at it!
They had three H78 masks, two of them were really glossy, and one was not glossy at all, so I went with the non-glossy one. My TOTS pre-order copy is a little glossy but not as glossy as these other two I saw in the store today. So I went with the non-glossy one. Looks like a good one, I will mess around with it later tonight.
Yeah that is why I like to wait and pick out my own at the store. But you can’t do that with all of them as Spirit barely gets any so you have to order blindly then and pray you get a good copy. I wish they had all of TOTS masks but that would be a lot lol.
Hi, longtime fan from IL. My TOT H1 arrived a couple weeks ago and luckily got a decent one. I would have preferred to pick one out in person, but wasn’t sure I’d actually find one out in the wild given how long fans have waited for an official H1. I almost cancelled my '78 and stuck with my modded H2 after seeing the first in hand pics and youtube reviews because I thought it was too bright white and didn’t like the hairline. In hand it’s so much better. The subtle paint and colors pop a lot more and the hairline is hardly an issue to me in person. The hair on the '78 is much easier to get a “natural” messy look with all the flyaways etc… the eyeholes are bigger and the neck is the right length. About the only thing that I prefer on the H2 is the glue lines, but it’s definitely not a deal breaker. Overall, for under $60 it’s a great mask right off the rack.
Here’s a couple of quick pics of the H1 and my modded H2 from a couple years ago. Th H1 has been sitting in the shipping box under my desk for a couple weeks, but this is after just 30 seconds of messing with the hair.
My modded H2
Not all are created equal… I picked up the one on the right since it’s shaped better and more matte than my glossy pre-order. The one on the left is just to show some of the crap that’s at the stores.
I wouldn’t call any of them crap, but definitely ones better than the other. If that one on the left was right next to an old blue lips on that rack it would look like a dream come true.
The gloss and the eye cuts are the problem I see with that one on the left though. Otherwise it still looks damn good for a mask sitting in a Spirit Halloween store.
Growing up with god awful Myers masks at costume shops, and sometimes no Myers masks at all some years at costume shops, Trick or Treat Studios has definitely put an end to having to walk in to seeing an old blue lips staring back at you every year.
Some of the Don Post ones I had in the late 80s were ok, but still nothing near what TOTS is putting out right now. However there still are those god awful Rob Zombie masks floating around some Spirit Halloween stores, and the TOTS masks put those pieces of trash to shame.
Now TOTS just needs the rights to the Rob Zombie masks to finally get the last of the shitty Myers masks off of the shelf.
I understand what you mean, it’s a long assembly line of workers making these and differences are going to be a regular occurrence in the final product. Early runs are always more inconsistent until the team fully learns the look.
But that RZ mask, good god, now that’s trash lol. When you need a hair net to prevent all the hair from falling out in the first week it’s on the shelf, that’s a sign of some quality stuff right there lol.
After going to several Spirits I have to say the runts of the litter seem to be at Spirit, at least the ones in my area… I see more bad copies than good of the H1, and Party City and Spirit both have the 2018 mask and I have seen some great pulls this year from that one.
