This, to me, is a culmination of the highest measure. Ever since I laid my eyes on J’s Stab(s) years ago, when I first joined this community, my love for the mask grew and grew. I’ve wanted and needed one for a few years now. Now, most of you know I already had this for a month or two, but for me a Stab has to be a clean ghostly white with dark hair. Matthew Mayhem came to me and asked if he could work on my Stab and after seeing what he’d done with Brandon’s I was sold on his work with the Stabs. Matthew did nothing but deliver on my copy. It may be hard to tell in the pics (but that’s just because Matt did such a good job of making everything of so subtle, like it should be) but there is so much detail in the paintwork in the eyebrows, nose, and mouth. Basically the weathering on this mask is strictly flesh mixed with white paint, instead of just black paint. That, for me, is what sets this mask apart and so high from everything I’ve owned and currently own. Anyway, enough with my sob story. On with the pics!
Fantastic,Matt!!Your pics are always great for showing detail and this mofo has tons of gentle weathering/paint subtleties.Matt did a great job. This pic below is THE ONE for me…
You are exactly right Matt! The camera just doesn’t pick up the quality of the paint that Matthew put into our Stabs. Its crazy but you guys would just have to see for yourselves what we mean. Theres so much more than what you see in the pics. He did another fantastic job and your copy looks solid now. Congrats!!
First I want to thank Dren for giving me the opportunity to paint and hair the mask. I really strive for the look Matt wanted plus my own little flair. Want to thank you guys for all the positive feed back on the masks Ive painted or haired. Thanks especially to Brandon for being the first to take the risk and Matt and John Henry for also giving me a chance. Also want to thank all the great artists. Really appreciate my good friends Andrew Santagato, James Carter, Tommy Pickering and Colin Mayne…also other inspiring artists that I have either given tips to me or just inspired my work…, Justin Mabry, Mo, Ken and Mike and many others. Thanks everyone. Ya’ll are great.
Matt, you truly made my most coveted mask the most well done. It is the most significant in my collection, not only in sculpt but in finishing as well.
This is truly a VERY underrated mask IMHO.
To me, an SS just has that “blank” look of the hero.
With that said, your camera skills have been progressing Matt. But these, these are some of my favorite. Matthew really hooked you up. I was highly anticipating seeing Brandon’s copy and your copy finished. So glad to see some good shots of the final result.
Matt threw some of that black mohair on my copy as well and this is the most excited I’ve been in a while to add such a mask to my collection.
Kudos to Matt and James for such an excellent piece.
The way the mouth stays slightly opened just makes it look so eerie Its an incredibly creepy mask and your pics definitely show it off very well. -tom.
