small holes and air bubbles on chin of most masks

Hi does anyone else notice on most masks especially indy masks right under the chin there are holes and bubbles usually. what causes this? Is it the gravity of the pull when its made?

Yeah, it’s fairly common. When you’re filling a mold its a great place for bubbles to get trapped if you aren’t careful! Imagine a mask upside down, as if you’re pouring the latex into the mold. The chin is basically a big divot where the air gets trapped. Of course these bubbles happen more frequently if you’re dwell casting, though.

Thank you so much for explaining this!

Mine has tiny holes in the chin, ears, and sides of the neck, and might get more in the future, seems like airbubbles blow at a certain point and leave pin holes, I really hope it’s normal.

guys if you want and if it bothers you enough you can easily add RD407 latex in those holes with a paint brush. It will dry and you’ll have trouble finding where you brushed them in.

they are almost invisible at the end of the day, so they don’t bother me as long as they don’t get worse or ruin the mask any further by wearing it costantly
