SInce I have been collecting masks, how long will it last? Does it simply rot over time, or is there something that you are suppose to put in it or on it, every once in a while. Also when its on a stand, what do you put inside of the mask, to make it stand. Also I know for some I heard corn starch , and baby powder are suppose to help keep the strength of the mask, im not sure . Also those of you have that have your mannequins,do you simply put the mask over it, or something inside else? I want to take care of my collection for as long as I can. Please any advice some of you may have , please share.
A good way i go is wtuffing tuem with trqsh bags or grocery sacs. It helps keep its shape and also u can make thickness desired for a more desired look. Also baby powder does help the masks, what u need to watch for is sunlight hitting the masks cause it will cause em to turn yellow the eventually a brown. Another tip, keep em dusted off. Other than that enjoy em and our great hobby, your masks, depending on how good the latex used was should last u quite awhile. Possibly longer than a human life.
Take care
Ethan
I’m really big into taking care of my masks as well since I’m a collector and my masks aren’t cheap. The only thing I can say is to keep the masks away from extreme heat or humidity and make sure to keep them on any kind of mannequin head to preserve their shape
baby powder is very good for your mask, especially after wearingit, the baby powder will reduce the harm your breath/sweat does to your mask after worn! also like others said sunlight isn’t good, it will discolour your masks! and yes stuffing is needed if you want your masks to retain their shape! and heat can damage your mask too! last of all when your masks get to a certain age it is good to have them foam filled as it will slow down the mask’s rotting rate! hope i helped
This may be a silly question but, where do you powder it? The inside or out? When, and how often do you do it?
Thanks guys, new to masks…
Do not powder the outside…Powder the inside especially after you wear it…Moisture is bad for latex so naturally the sweating and breathing inside of mask puts moisture on it…Wipe the inside down to dry it and then powder it…Use non scented powder also…Keep them out of direct sunlight and extreme tempatures…Keep them stuffed with plastic bags and on a stand to maintain its shape…The absolute best way to protect a mask from harful elements such as dust, moisture ETC, is to keep them behind glass…But if you cant do this just keep them on a stand and make sure you keep them dust free…A good dusting about once a week should do just fine…The latex used today is much stronger than the latex used in the early days…If you take care of them poroperly they should last you a lifetime…Just remember that latex is a natural material so it does break down and rot without the proper care…Try not to handle them so much either…Constant handling can be bad as well because of the dirt/oils on your hand and fingers…Just take care of them properly my man and your mask will be around for many, many years to come…Later bud
Thanks a lot man!!! I will do that now. I only have 2 masks so far but many more to come!
Thanks again man.
