I’ve always be interested in what the closest, most accurate Kirk replica would be. I already know of the detail that the H1/H2SM masks have, but I’ve also heard of other OG Kirks having lineage to some modern day masks, like how the Shat/Creep mold was from a casting of someone’s Kirk that I forgot the name of.
Simply curious on what the best Kirk replica you can purchase would be, especially if they’re still being produced.
While I would personally say the Night Owl Creep comes closest to replicating a Kirk, that’s more than likely my biases talking. If I had to be intellectually honest, I would absolutely say that any mask that has direct lineage to the '98 Protos is what you’d want to go for: pretty much any of NAG’s stuff. I will say, though, that most of the masks from the Billy Kirkus recasts that you find in those tree charts are good. The Creep/Shat is basically a must-have.
The 98 Proto, particularly the CAST 98 proto version is the most accurate! Also, I always LOVE the NAG 2K as a kirk, and that thing just screams Kirk!
Like what NagandEmerald said, the Nightowl Shat is a must have as well! It makes a very killer Kirk!
I attached a lot of photos of a Nightowl Shat Kirk style by Justin Mabry!
For the Nightowl Creep/Shat, I’ve been told Justin sculpted this mask entirely from the lifecast of Shatner while others have said it is a nightmare retool. Either way, it’s a killer mask!
These are all utterly marvelous choices. I think the SHAT is a wonderful, clean Kirk as if it was taken straight from the racks of a store on 1978. What really caught my eye was JC’s Kirk that Slasher75 posted.
The subtle traces of the “vintage” glue, the detailing and coloring. That is, without a doubt, the most beautiful Kirk I’ve ever witnessed. It gives the fantasy of being found in your dad’s closet, or rummaging through the attic of your grandparents and stumbling across it. Is that a 98 Proto, 2K, 75K, or something else entirely? That won me over in a mere second.
Cast is the direct cast from the don post 98 proto, and I heard the test version is just the enlarged version of the cast. There exists both a cast and a test.Nik might have made very minimal changes to the cast to bring out the features that were lost during molding, and also trying to not alter the casting of the 98 proto as much as possible
‘Np! take my information with a grain of salt however, as I only based it off from word of mouth! I am confident regarding about the 98 cast situation, but I don’t know if it’s a direct cast or Nik did a little bit of retooling but to a minimal to keep the casted features. For the test, it’s a bit unclear, although the test being the larger size of the cast is the only info I can find on that.
