The Definitive Guide to All Halloween 1-11 Masks, Boots, Coveralls, and Knives **PIC HEAVY**

very rude? um sorry… wasn’t trying to be rude, I just think its pretty likely for a knife to have that much wear, because it does

Just the implied tone behind it, but you’re fine. I’m sorry but it’s, in my opinion, simply not possible for it to have that much wear if it’s the screen used knife.

EDIT: I just asked a knife expert his opinion on whether or not simply time could do this to the knife and I am awaiting his response.

I have a question, Randy, since you had to dull the metal knife, were there any deleted scenes, or footage shot where the knife had been used to actually stab something? plus steel can naturally rust/oxidise over time, thus the black spots on the blade then having to clean it again, so that can explain the brand being taken off

again sorry dude, i didn’t intend to sound rude, its hard telling someones tone over internet comments, also it really depends on the steel, i know first hand old knives i’ve had get markings like that on them from use and natural weathering, also who knows maybe it was used aggressively for something after shooting then got put in the sleeve as randy says, who knows.

No harm no foul, man . Who knows. I just want to get to the bottom of it. For the real prop to surface after all these years would be monumental.

I was not always on the set for shooting. Unless I was needed for a scene, my job was running ahead and preparing the next location.
So who knows what the knife went through. I’ll take another look at the movie and see if anything comes to mind.
I take no offense if someone does not think the knife is real. They are entitled to their opinion.

amazing work mate, that was a great guide for reading this night you have a lot of patience to do this)) thanks for this thread

Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed reading it. It was a blast to put together.

Very cool to see these items Randy. Appreciate anything else you may be able to share.

The marks on the blade are not heavy scratches or grinding. There was no makers mark on the blade.
This knife is almost 40 years old. Stuff happens with age. The softer images on the blade is
reflections from the sky. Besides how can anyone who wasn’t on a certain movie set with a prop
24/7 state that they know what it did and didn’t go through. The knife was treated pretty well.
It broke my heart to dull the blade but safety first.

If I recall, didn’t Lamson78’s Case knife not have any markings either? I think it took him a long time to figure out the brand based on shape alone.

It did not. But it was worn down from being used (probably cutting acidic food), sharpening, among other things. Check the Halloween (1978) section in my initial post. You can see there the original screen used knife’s stamp and its comparison to a Case stamp. There is simply no way the knife would loose so much detail and have the texture it has and not be ground down with a sander of some sort. That is not only my opinion, but that of several knife experts. If it is in fact the screen used knife I just want to know how it got so damaged.

Also the shape isn’t how he found the brand. He was able to use a special light that brought out details lost over time, I believe.

I was just guessing at that. I didn’t actually know how he found the brand.

Well there -are- two faint scratches sorta in the right spot:
If the surface has been worn down, I guess that might explain it (and the lack of brand).

Left + Middle: Film screenshots
Top: Original photo.
Right: Rotated, stretched flat and contrast jacked up.

I just now saw that he posted those better photos, so I retract the statements I made prior. I now believe that this knife may be the SU one. The original photo posted by Randy must have been playing tricks on my eyes with reflections.

Randy- when you say “dull down the blade” do you mean the edge, or the ENITRE blade, surface and all?

Thank you for pointing this out Flamin Tramer! My apologies for missing it in the first place.

EDIT- However, Randy you must have missed the makers mark on the blade during the filming because it was, for a fact, there. It can be clearly made out in several screen shots from the film, as shown in the first post.

Can you provide a straight down Ariel shot of the knife, of both sides? I’m trying to screen match it better but I’m finding some more inconsistencies but it MAY be due to the angle of the pictures.

Also do you recall if you bought the knife new or used?

I dulled the cutting edge for safety. There was no need to do anything to the flat sides of the blade.
I bought the knife new at Larchmont Hardware. The blade is hard to photograph without getting reflections.
If I shoot directly overhead, you can see the camera. There never was a makers mark. When this knife was
made, Case only put tang stamps on folding and sheath knives. Not kitchen knives.
Check out this link at the Case website.

I’m sorry but in regards to the label, that is absolutely incorrect. Below is a photo of an original Case knife beside two screenshots of the hero knife at different points in the movie. There are multiple points in the movie where you can see that the knife has a stamp.

Picture clearly showing the same model case knife with the stamp compared to screenshots from Halloween clearly showing the same stamp on the same location:

A full pic of that blade in low light with it propped up against a wall would lessen that reflection. Also, a close up of the straight on photo of the raised tang area after the handle would help in screen matching. With the aforementioned photos I could easily determine if the knife was used on screen.

The Case website doesn’t have a totally comprehensive list of logos. It seems pocket/hunting knife focused.

Here’s a 1990s? Case 102-10 on eBay with yet another logo:
