I have come across a copy of the devils eyes book for sale. this one was actually used in the film and comes with a COA. what would the experts on here say it was worth. i know people say it’s worth what you want to pay for it but what would the seasoned experts on here pay for it.
The books from the deleted book signing scene are the only copies you’ll see for sale. There are softcover and hardcover version out there. They sold at a horror convention shortly after the films release at the autograph table where Daeg and Malcolm would then sign them for you if you wanted. I believe the softcovers went for $20 and the hardcovers for $50. Don’t quote me on that price because I only saw it once in a picture that a fan took of the table when he picked his up. Of course that’s no longer the value of the book since they have all been sold off. Those books are from what I’ve heard are all Freddy Vs. Jason books on the inside. The covers didn’t really fit right especially on the spine of the book but it really didn’t matter because they were just made for the extras to hold while the stood in line waiting for Loomis to sign them. In the documentary there’s a cool shot of the prop master putting those books together. I’m not sure how many of those books they made but that’s a factor in its its value for sure. I’ve seen them sell on Ebay in the $300-$400 price range but I’ve also seen them not get any bids at $200. The important thing to keep in mind when figuring out if how much you would pay for it is that it is not a hero copy. Hero props are made to be shot up close so they are higher quality and they don’t make to many of them. There are 2 hero copies of the book that I’m aware of and only 1 of them was actually in the final cuts of the film. It was kept in a locked box along with the knives. That’s the copy that was in the scene in Brackett’s office. I own that copy. The other hero may have been in the deleted cemetery scene but I cant say for sure because there’s not enough footage of that copy to screen match it. You can see the spine of that book and tell its a hero copy though. That second hero book was the actually first one sold and is in a private collection. When I got mine I had no idea it was the Hero book because there were already a few Freddy Vs Jason copies listed on yourprops.com. Considering the price I paid I wasn’t expecting a hero copy. I was also confused when it got to my house because I had read claims that “all” the authentic copies of the book were on Freddy books and mine wasn’t. I put the movie on and was pleasantly surprised when it screen matched unquestionably to the book in the office scene. I’m going to keep the price I paid and what book it is on the inside a secret. Now back to the book you’ve got your eye on. If its the one at the prop store of london I’ve heard some claims about it that you might be interested in. Supposedly Brad Dourif kept it in his pocket during filming as a part of his wordrobe. The damage to the cover was caused by him spilling coffee on it. So I’m sorry that in this really long reply to your question I still have not managed to give you and answer but I hope you find this information useful in putting a value on it for yourself
