The FUTURE of the Halloween franchise - H50 is only 5 years away...

I’ve always been extremely interested in the idea of a movie where it takes place in “our” world. Halloween is a series and Michael Myers is a character, but someone gets inspiration from him and dresses up like him trying to recreate what he’s done. Not sure exactly how it could be executed to be honest since it would be a movie where Michael Myers was never real, but I think if it was done right it could work.

I wouldn’t mind trying a stab at a horror anthology series, like Carpenter’s original intent. Though the reaction to Ends having slightly less Michael than the last two movies might make that harder to get off the ground now.

There’s only a few different directions I would like to see it go.

  1. Anthology.
I actually really liked the story in Ends…IF you took Michael out of it. There’s potential there, and goes to show an Anthology could absolutely work. If that movie was only about Corey’s decent into madness, that would be a great addition to the anthology idea. They probably should of just went all in with it, I mean they used the H3 font so they should of just went 100 percent all in with that idea. Michael shouldn’t of even been in it. There’s potential for the anthology series to work.

  2. Period piece set in the early 80’s.
If we want a Michael Myers film, the only acceptable way I would do it is a period piece set in the early 80’s. The flashback scene in Kills showed us that a period piece has MAJOR potential, but it needs to be written by true H1 and H2 purist fans who really understand the character. NO LAURIE. Absolutely no Laurie, that ship has sailed and capsized at this point.

  3. Sequel to part 4.
If they jump off of part 4, I would like to see it done in the style of the treatment I wrote for a sequel to part 4. That treatment does NOT include Michael Myers. It involves his essence, but he is not in the film. I think at one point I posted my idea on here but I can’t remember. Danielle Harris would be in it as Jamie, but it would be a much different film than what people probably want with her.

The synopsis would be along the lines of: “After spending years in Smiths Grove after killing her foster mother, Jamie Loyd is learning how to function in society again. But when mysterious deaths start happening on Halloween, her world is turned upside down.”

There’s no Michael Myers in my sequel idea to part 4. It’s not a copycat either. So take that for what you will. If you guys want to read what I had in mind let me know and I will post it some day.

Why don’t we all enjoy the original 1978 Halloween and leave it at that? This movie needs an eternal rest!

Here’s a terrific idea for the next HALLOWEEN film. Perhaps it can be called THE SHAPE.

Same. I’m always happy to get more films. I will always give this franchise a chance, no matter how many times it burns me. It just sucks because when a bad movie comes out, it’s usually followed by 1-2 more bad ones. So we have to suffer through a number of years of filth, like with Blumhouse. And I’ve been suffering since 2002. But I will happily welcome a new start and give them another chance when the time comes for a reboot. Always.

I’ll just say I’d like the next one to have Michael in it. Hopefully young (like 20s-30s) and hopefully with a fresh, clean, white mask. And hopefully they shoot it in Pasadena. And hopefully it’s not a retelling of anything, or filled with a bunch of unnecessary wink-wink’s. And for god’s sake, make it scary! 1-6 nailed the mood and atmosphere and the scariness of it all. The rest haven’t.

Im done with this franchise after that awful ends movie!.. I been watching since 86…

I know where you’re coming from. The last movie in the franchise I even remotely sort of liked was H20. That’s 1998. It’s been a long time. While I have little faith in ever getting a truly good Halloween movie again I’ll always hold out hope and keep an eye on things.

And if nothing else, for the time being, I’ve adopted a new rule… OG movies only. Meaning I’ll only watch H1-H6 during series marathons and then I’ll consider the marathon complete.

Yeah no doubt the flashback scene was done amazingly. I would love to see them bring somebody in who looked like and could act like and betray the character Dr Loomis like Donald Pleasence. Would really love to see a new version of the 78 classic done with true meticulous attention to every detail imaginable and resurrect that movie for a new generation. I mean how cool would it be to go see it in theaters the original itself let alone a resurrected version of it that nails every aspect of it right down to the lighting the score with maybe a slightly new twist like you’re saying as well as giving Michael that same creepy feel from the first with maybe a little more screen time. What David Gordon Green did with that flashback scene was truly amazing absolutely love to see somebody pull off a remake of the original as well as he did that flashback scene

I love the idea of using the next of kin to Dr Loomis as a sequel idea! That’s good creative thinking right there maybe we’ll get lucky enough to see something like that. After all Donald Pleasence was such a major contributor to the franchise I feel like his character deserves a nod in a big way even though David Gordon Green did the flashback scene in executed it so well I think there’s a lot more to explore and a way to honor Donald Pleasence for his time and the franchise. There’s still so many cool directions they could go and things they could do for sequels.

Yeah I don’t need to see any more of “human/mortal” Myers, perhaps barring surprisingly Resurrection we’ve had that from ‘98 on, so over half of the history of the series has been antithetical to the original Halloween. I want an atmospheric, creepy slow, Halloween film shot in autumn, with The Shape who is barely in the film an mostly seen stalking, often from afar. In the original he was essentially like a ghost for most of the running time. Halloween 4 got that part right as well (6 did a good job too).
It should be about The town of Haddonfield which has its’ own urban legend, it’s own ghost story, a curse, even a haunted house and The Shape is that made manifest, so he should be treated as such a thing manifested into human form. That doesn’t mean you strip him of a relatable human backstory or whatnot, but if you live in a town that has had an infamous serial killer like I have, they become a legend, a boogeyman, even imprisoned or after their deaths, those real life people are very much mortal unlike The Shape, but you can cull from those real experiences as well.
I want a sense of quiet realism and strong characters to make the film feel more real so that the fantastic is grounded. Halloween did this well, so have films like Session 9, Cure, Picnic at Hanging Rock, The Exorcist, Noroi: The Curse, The Blair Witch Project, The Witch, Stalker, Seance, Creepy, The Wailing, The Woman in Black (the original), House of the Devil, Friday the 13th, and Lake Mungo (among others).
There’s been too much schlock in the series, even entries that I love like IV had the good 'ol boys that came across campy and after H:20 (which had some itself with L.L. Cool J and the Williamson teen writing) we’ve had nonstop schlock and camp. Funnily enough Rob Zombie’s Halloween II had a some of the most grounded performances in the series with Brad Dourif, Danielle Harris, Margot Kidder, and a couple others, it was just in a very uneven film.

The difficult part is who can actually write and direct something like that these days, and of the ones that could, would they want to? You are likely not going to see Robert Eggers or Kiyoshi Kurosawa want to do a Halloween film. The producers are as much to blame for Halloween turning into what it has as the filmmakers. They are the ones choosing who gets the job and they’ve been failing for ages. I’d say let the series breathe a bit and do an anthology series for a bit until they find the right writer and director, but the 50th anniversary is too huge to ignore.

I just want a series of movies that connect and last for at LEAST four films instead of a timeline with two movies

a consistent Michael would be nice

This- don’t humanize Mikey. He’s not meant to be a character study. He’s a force of nature.

Give me a period piece without the technology and tropes of the day. Make it grounded and character based with a masked psychopath on the loose. No need for a backstory. Make us CARE when someone gets killed. Likeable characters getting killed with suspense, Halloween esthetics, and a good score. Dont make michael the star, make the ill-fated kids the star and rip our hearts out

As long as the nxt movie avoids the predictable tropes of the latter films in over explaing myers and uses the less is more feel from the original…then I feel something great could still be done with the franchise. But no more JLC and we need characters we genuinely give a toss about rather than the usual fodder. Fodder thats main role is just to set up another gore scene. Dont get me wrong…I love some of the brutal kills but the original rarely had any blood and I personally prefer a creepy embodiment of evil rather than just another killer tank like jason.
