Before I share my ideas, let me say that I am a fan of the original film only. I don’t like any of the sequels, though H20 was decent and the scores for H2 and the Blumhouse trilogy have been good. I am also a huge fan of Season of The Witch, but it’s not a Halloween sequel.
Idea 1: Halloween ___________
This idea is simple: use Carpenter’s anthology idea. The biggest draw is that Carpenter agrees to write a script for the new Halloween movie, which of course has nothing to do with Michael Myers. He would also score with son and son-in-law. I’d love to see Carpenter’s take on a pure monster movie, especially since he was hoping to direct a remake of The Creature From The Black Lagoon and created a masterpiece with The Thing.
If Michael Myers HAS to be involved…
Idea 2: Halloween 1983 (working title)
It’s five years after “The Night HE Came Home!” Laurie, Tommy, and Lindsay received free treatment from Dr. Loomis after the events of Halloween night. Inspired by Dr. Loomis’ care and kindness, Laurie decides to pursue a career in psychology. She’s completed her undergraduate work and has just moved into a new high rise in Los Angeles, where she’s working on her Master’s degree. Despite Dr. Loomis’ help, she’s still haunted by nightmares and even imagines that Michael Myers is watching her. He was never found after falling from the balcony and though the police think he’s dead, Laurie still has her doubts. Loomis, meanwhile, believes Michael is still alive but that he will always return to Haddonfield since that’s where his home is.
There’s a very small cast, including Laurie, Dr. Loomis, and neighbors in Laurie’s apartment building. The movie would be heavily based on Carpenter’s 1978 TV Movie, “Someone’s Watching Me!” I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn’t seen it. Using the ending of that film would mean that Michael is very likely dead, though there would be an opening for his return. I know this would require recasting, but I think fifty years is long enough to wait.
Idea 3: The Town That Killed Halloween
Fifty years after “The Night HE Came Home!,” Haddonfield, Illinois has largely moved on from the return of Michael Myers. Every kid in town knows the story, but most believe it’s just a fable used to scare kids into doing what’s right. Myers was never seen after disappearing from the lawn where he fell. Most people in the town believed he must have died not long after walking away. Dr. Loomis, however, believed he was still out there, but no one listened. His great-grandson, John Loomis, and his wife are travel vloggers who have done several true crime and horror film location videos. Local and national news stories on the fifty year anniversary reveal to John that his grandfather was involved in the case. John digs through his grandfather’s notes and finds a wealth of information. Sam never talked to him about the case, nor any member of the family. Intrigued, John and his wife head to Haddonfield on Halloween Eve, finding that they’re not the only outsiders interested in the anniversary and that someone has decided to take up Michael Myers’ work.
