The H4(primary) Hero and the Promo mask...Picture heavy

I’ve recently noticed a distinctive stain pattern located on the forehead of the primary hero.

Once you see it it’s very noticable in a lot of the scenes

Now I do not know how many of the masks were actually used on set. I have come to think the mask used in promotion materials and events was not the primary hero seen above. It may have been the dummy used in the “Truck scenes”.

What’s interesting about this particular mask is that when it first showed up for promotion, it was in a severly bad state with the paint cracking and flaking.
Maybe from getting run over? Who knows…

Somewhere along the way this mask was repainted/rehauled and was then again used for the promo shoots and events

During the repaint, one can notice that a lot of the white had hit some of the hair altering the original hairline

Of course this can be the second coat of paint pealing off↑

A huge difference I noticed with the Primary Hero and the Promo is that the Hero has properly drilled open nose holes while the Promo does not

I need a copy of this. QOTS needs to start up again.

Nice work K!!!

Love the Halloween 4 mask, and it’s great to see so many photographs organized in one place. Thanks for this, K!

I remember it being said that the masks were constantly repainted on set because they kept flaking. Seeing the condition of the masks today, they must have used acrylic paint.

Great stuff kaizu!

Glad you guys dig!
I’ll be making another thread concerning these flap shown in this pic…soon!

Oh wow, I never noticed those! Can’t wait for the thread!

This mask has always been my favorite. The streched face and smaller eyes really make a unique Myers IMO. I plan to add one in that style to my collection.

I love how much mystery there is around the H4 masks. Great thread K!

Man, thank you for taking the time to post this, Kaizu. Just makes me love the H4 mask even more.

Thanks gang…Hey its H4 30th anniversary!

You’re right, I just noticed that! I wonder if they’ll release a special 30th anniversary H4 Blu-ray.

Very cool thread and interesting observations. H4s minimalistic features make it creepier IMO.

Totally agree. To me, the H4 mask is the creepiest mask in the series because it personifies Michael perfectly: blank, and emotionless. I feel the H4 mask achieves this even more so than the H1/2 mask, even though that’s the best mask and my favorite. In fact, the H4 mask is probably my second favorite mask, just after the original. Most people hate the H4 mask because they think it looks cheap. If they would actually look at it, they would find something much more than that. It also helps that, at least from what I’ve heard, the H4 mask is supposedly the last mask in the series that has connection to a Kirk mask (feel free to correct me if I’m wrong).

If anything, if it looks cheap, that’s more realistic. Most Halloween store masks are poor quality anyway. That’s how I look at it. Every year, it seems a mask that goes year to year gets worse. (Look at the RZ mask) so 78-88, the mask gets lower quality every year.

That’s true, but look at the 1975 Kirk mask and what a beauty that was. I guess mass produced mask makers stopped caring and trying.

This is the sort of thing that makes this board great. Nice observations.

I think I’m more interested in where that photo of Jean Stapleton (All in the Family) with the mask comes from… the 1988 premiere? o:

Such an awesome post, K. Much appreciated of you taking the time and knowledge to throw this together

Great observation and well explained BBK.
