The Halloween 3 Hate, why?

I’ve read some negative H3 comments lately (referring to the 1982 classic). What’s with that? Are you guys mad because it didn’t feature Michael Myers? Well consider this: screw H4-8, Myers died in 1981… I think Halloween would have been a GREAT series if they continued to do Halloween related stories rather than the same killer coming back and dieing over and over again… I think H3 is a huge relief from all the sequel’s bullshit.

Anyone else agree? If you hated H3, why?

  • 'cuz conal cochran failed to take into account Coordinated Universal Time (est, pst, etc.) in order for his “master” plan to have effect at the exact same broadcast time all over the country and all around the world.
  • annoying jingle (no kid or sober human being in his right mind would find that jingle amusing)
  • slutty female protagonist (ellie) who jumps in bed with Atkins even though her father just died (by getting his wig split).
  • Michael Myers (wearing human mask) in the role of the Dick Warlock Android Assassin

the soundtrack was cool.

Halloween III RULES! I love it. I think it’s a killer movie.

yeah well everyone is wrong Michael was in H3
(if you pay attention he was on the tv )
besides it was a pretty good movie ,plus the bad guys won in the end and that was pretty original
sorry if I spoiled the ending but I had to prove my point

I freaking love Halloween 3. I’ve been watching 1&3 monthly since I bought them on dvd along time ago. I almost never get tired of it. I know there are a few things that could have been better but I think it’s really original and generally fun to watch. The only real problem I had with it when I first saw it because the person who suggested it to me got the description completely wrong and told the kids went around in cursed masks killing everyone because of witcgcraft. Now that would be an awesome movie but Halloween 3 as is is entertaining and worth the money.

No hate from me, I love Halloween III. :sunglasses:

i agree H3 is a great movie the only thing wrong with it is its called halloween 3

i remember the 1st time i seen it i was 7 (1989) its was the 1st scary movie i was allowed to watch

must have seen it a dozen times since then and i met tom atkins and got a h3 poster signed hes awesome

I hated it because it didn’t have Michael in it. I remember watching it when it first came out. I was so upset when I realized it had nothing to do with Michael Myers. I guess it was an o.k. movie. But it should NEVER! have been called Halloween III.

NEVER!

Yeah, I’m sure it would get more positive reviews if it was just titled “Season of the Witch.”

It’s a classic. Creepy as hell, gotta love the atmosphere, soundtrack, and of course Atkins.

H3 is a good stand alone film, not as a Halloween “sequel” and that’s how it was billed. If it was billed as Season Of the Witch, Samhain, or any other name i think it would’ve done well! The powers that be knew the name Halloween III would put butts in the seats and with John Carpenter attached, it was a no brainer…was it misleading? yeah probably…i never saw the trailer, but i do know older movie trailers tended to always mislead you…now we have the internet to learn more about films coming out

I love it. The reason Ellie gave it up so easily is because Tom Atkins is the man!

Who cares what it had or didn’t have. H3 was a good movie whether or not it had the title “Halloween” in it. It was still Halloween night in the movie wasnt it? I think the movie rocked. They should remake that one for the new H3D IMO.

Originally, i never liked this movie. I did see it before I saw Halloween 4 though, and I was pretty certain Myers was dead after Halloween II. So when 4 came out, and it was called “The Return of Michael Myers” I was floored. However, over the years, III has really grown on me. I realized that the filmmakers were going for something different, and I think back then, that was a really bold move. Ultimately, people didn’t get it. It is a great little stand-alone movie, and I agree the title should have been changed, but the producers, Carpenter included, wanted to do Halloween-themed anthology films. A new Halloween -themed movie every couple of years, but unfortunately, III bombed - and Carpenter bowed from the series.

One quick note:
I remember seeing that old TV show Blossom in 1989, and Joey (the older stupid brother) said he was gonna watch the Halloween movies with his buddy: Halloween 1, 2 and 4. Blossom replied, “What about part III?” to which Joey exclaimed - “They made a part III?”
I thought that was funny even back then.

i personally enjoyed h3

No hate here! It’s a “must watch” for me during the season. :axe:

From reading all of these posts I am just not seeing all the hate you’re talking about. Except from 1 guy. Seems like everyone likes H3 to me. What thread was it you read that showed hate for the film? I’ve looked back at all the recent and non recent H3 threads posted here and I don’t see any hate posts against it.

Instant classic.
Loved the masks, music, and atmosphere of this film.
Everything about it just screamed Halloween!

I loved H3 for what it was, and I think the name HALLOWEEN III is PERFECT for the film. They wanted to make the franchise VARIOUS halloween related films, NOT A SERIES of 1 killer. I think the fact that H4 is “The return of michael myers” is great, but I wish they continued making original idea Halloween films, non myers related.

The trailer for ‘Halloween III’ did not mislead anyone; it’s clearly seen as a separate entity in the series. That being said, the general public, who didn’t pay attention, felt like the rug was taken out from underneath them.

It was obvious to Carpenter that the ‘Myers’ story line was over, done…kaput! (Only if the “many” also understood that!)

‘Halloween III’ stands alone in the Halloween series and it ranks right up there in my book next to the original 1978 film.

Excellent point Billy.
