THe Hoffman Medley Project HMK!

I was under the impression it would be worth some nice cash… several hundred at least? I know I’d kill to have one in the collection. May the mask gods forgive you  . Let me look around and see if I have anything rotten with Kirk hair that would be better to use instead of this guy.

No he did’nt. It was sold to another collector on the N.O. forum

I’m confused. We were talking through PM the other day as you mentioned a Myers you haired (I believe it was the NAG 2k) was haired w/ Kirk hair.
I asked you where you obtained the hair and you told me it was from the 70s Hunchback. Am I dreaming or what?

EDIT: Maybe you were just referring to the hair you used for the eyebrows.

The last 75 Wolfman I sold went for around $350 and it was restored and foam filled. Actually, wait, I didn’t sell it… I traded it for a Warlock w/ a fake COA straight from T. :unamused:

I was referring to the Kirk I just got in the door, Nik (who now owns the hunchie and is keeping it as is) used a small amount of the hunchback hair was used on the eyebrows on the proto only.

Roger that!

i think i bid on that one…man dont trash it :frowning:
I’d love to buy it from you.
There are many other DP’s in worse condition for kirk hair

If someone wants to sell me a DP w/ Kirk hair in worse condition… please get in touch. I’d love to buy it.

Otherwise, Wolfie is goin naked most likely. I bid on this auction too Jon and lost it. But the buyer got w/ me on a 2nd chance offer.

I don’t mean to start a fight, but I find this hard to understand. Technically, it’s not “kirk hair” because it’s the wrong color. So why spend the money on buying that mask and ripping the hair off if it’s inaccurate? Why not dye cheaper hair the correct color? Yes, I understand getting an accurate color is hard, but throwing down a lot of money for a vintage DP mask just to rip the hair off seems highly unnecessary.

I understand that the texture is perfect, but in my eyes, adding authenticity to one mask isn’t worth ruining the authenticity of another.

Kirk hair has generally adapted to the definition of 1970’s hair that DP used on their masks. The texture means alot to myers collectors, at least it does for me. The only other hair that comes close that I’ve seen in person is KH hair, but you can still tell the difference. The wrong thing to do would be to distroy the mask, simply taking the hair off and rehairing it would proabably do it justice. It’s got the myers matted look that the wolfman’s were not suppose to have.

With all of the hub bub with braided Crape Hair I sent an email to DP, Jr. to see if he can help us find a source for some unbraided Crape Hair.

Why is it always “Myers”;the BASTARD son of a “Capt. Kirk” mask that always brings controversy into everything. Uggghhhhh, I’m really starting to hate this hobby.

It’s the same fiber that was used on the Kirks, just dyed a light brown… I don’t think anyone is going to be able to replicate the Hero hair color exactly as it was so why even bother calling it inaccurate? Every replica out there is inaccurate in some way. The hair has changed a lot on the hero since it was first seen in the first film (as seen in the recent pics). I prefer a light/medium brown color, similar to what you see in the closet scene w/ the light showing the true color. It’s not like I broke the bank on this Wolfman… I just got a second offer shot and took it. The color is very close to the color I prefer on my Myers… I plan on misting it a bit to darken, but the consistency of the hair is what I was looking for. And I’m not just ripping the hair off and throwing the mask away. Anyone who knows me well knows my love for vintage DP. I will most likely restore the Wolf and rehair it w/ crepe or something course. I had a gut feeling posting my score would stir up some controversy, but that’s ok… it’s all about my preference, not everyone elses.

You’ve got it man… the texture is key! I’ve spent about a year trying to track down an old DP that I could use the hair from… and now I’ve found it. So that puts a smile on my face. And yeah, the only thing that really comes close to the hair used on these old masks is the KH stuff… but it still feels a bit synthetic in a way. Glad you see things in the same light as me.

I actually love crepe. The braided stuff is easy to undo… just put it in warm water for a few minutes and then take it out… voila! Unbraided. Very easy to work with too!

From what year to what year was true kirk hair used on the dps??

I don’t have an exact answer for that, but I’m sure someone at the HMA could help. I would guess late 60s to the late 70s.

The previous owner of this mask actually said he bought it from Fangoria Magazine in 1969. And he is the original owner.

It was worn a few times and stored away for years… the rot is actually only around the neck, he cleared that up for me.

The rest is pliable and soft.

Here is a pic of the back of the Wolfman next to the old 75 Kirk I used to own w/ the lighter hair.

The frizz looks identical.
I definetly agree with the texture thing.
I don’t know what’s used on my 80s phantom, could be just standard crepe idk but it definetly isn’t the stuff we see today.

Yeah T, I have that same 80s Phantom and the hair is close… but the fiber is too thick and not quite as soft as the older stuff. It’s almost as if the sheep evolved over the years and started putting on thicker coats.

I can’t argue with that
I agree the wolf hair does look softer.

I don’t think know one has quite matched the exact hair yet, especially with the pic Chad posted of the 75. The closest I’ve had so far is definitely crepe, it has the same frizz to it and it mattes down with ease. It’s all about color too, Niks 2k Kirk has the closest I’ve seen to the real deal in both color and consistency.

I agree.
Other than the special mohair JC used on my 99 shat, all my other myers have hair that is difficult to style.
Crepe seems to stay where you style it.

The stuff I’m using on the HMK’s (for those who want it) is as close as I’ve ever seen in both consistency and color. In my opinion, the only difference is the age. I’d bet that DP used a type of crepe and the reason we can’t “perfectly” match it today is because the DP hair is 30-40 years older than any new hair we order. Time changes everything, hair included.
