Hi everyone, I’m sort of stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to the Michael Myers walk. My costume is for H1, so I should therefore walk like nick castle did, but here’s the problem. When most people see you dressed as Michael myers, and I’m talking about average people who don’t really follow the series or aren’t die hard fans that know everything there is to know about Michael myers, when they see you dressed as myers, and you walk like nick, it looks normal, so they’ll think, wait didn’t Michael myers walk really slow and creepy? Which is why I always just sort of do my own unique take on the dick warlock walk, just a bit faster but not much. Thing is, I like the Nick castle walk but it just seems like when people think of myers, he has to walk very slow like dick warlock, and as soon as you walk like castle, they know somethings off. I hope you understand what I’m talking about, so what do you guys usually do for your myers walk? Didn’t mean to ramble on ha ha, but just thought this would be an interesting topic to discuss with you guys.
Yeah i know what u mean. When i dress up as Myers every halloween, the last years some people told me the same. Like i have to walk very slow and more robotic like. I guess the most people have that slow myers walk in their mind. Maybe the reason is that most of the movie killers never run but always catch their victims at one point. So people have that picture of a slow walking killer in their mind.
For me the castle and the durand walk always stands out to me. That’s the myers walk that i like the most. Not too fast but in some way a mix between human and evil. Dick Warlock’s style is also cool but for me it’s just too slow. In some scenes in halloween 2 it looked kind of funny. I mean it not in a negative way. Also never felt that in H4, 5 and 6 the walk was right.
Castles walk is just crazy awesome, the way he has that twitch here and there is some damn good acting! Oh and the sway back and forth at the end of the movie is just creepy as hell! Also when he makes it to the Wallace house and Doyle’s, he gets out of the wagon and he keeps his hands wide open and fingers pointed down not swinging the arms while walking to the tree to do some spying stalking. Pure mental creepy right there. Love it!!
I know what you mean, I love those scenes of him walking. My favorites are when he gets out of the car and walks across the street to hide behind the tree and the chase scene when he’s walking across the street while Laurie bangs on the door to wake up Tommy ha ha
Yeah, I love how when he went to John carpenter asking how should I walk? John just said, Nick, just walk, ha ha! And how could I forget the scene of him coming down the stairs after Laurie falls over the railing!
I like the way Castle walked in H1. As knightblake said, the way he walked without swinging his arms made it look a bit creepy. He did walk a bit slow at times but only when needed. When he came down the stairs he was moving at a good pace, unlike how Warlock came down the stairs, one step at a time. I do like Warlock’s slow mechanical style too. He must have looked at footage of Castle from H1 and focused on the slower walking for his style in H2. He sort of started the killer walks slow/victim runs fast and still gets caught thing. I feel Durand’s version was the closest to Castle’s in H1. Durand moved in a more normal way and wasn’t mechanical at all.
My favorite is Castle in H1 but I still get a kick out of Warlock’s slow moving style.
Yeah from what I’ve heard, dick warlock said he basically watched the ending of H1 where Michael slowly sneaks up behind Laurie then chokes her right before Loomis runs in to shoot him. He said he loved how in that scene Michael looked so mechanical with his movements. He said he watched the whole movie but couldn’t really get an idea of how to walk from watching Nick Castle and I guess that kind of makes sense because like you said, sometimes he walks normal like when he’s chasing laurie across the street, and others he’s slow and creepy like when he walked to the closet. Rick Rosenthal said he thought dick warlocks walk had a glide to it, as though his feet weren’t even touching the ground. And according to dick warlock, Debra hill didn’t really like his walk in H2, and dick said she was on set everyday and never once said a word to him about his walk so he assumed he was doing it right.
So how do you guys explain the H4 walk? Is it stiff or robotic or even both? It is strange like when Wilbur starts walking up the stairs after Brady…real slow and then stop turn to the left look at them then turn back to normal position and continue up stairs lol!
I know that’s weird! Or the scene where Michael goes to the electrical place to kill the worker, Bucky. After he throws him onto the electrical machinery, Michael just slowly turns around pivoting on one foot, pretty creepy!
I guess the best way or one of the ways to explain his walking is he has been strapped to a gurney for 10 years and getting used to walking again… I guess Then again also he was all burned up so hmmm!!
Haven’t seen H20 in a while so I went back to watch it today and yes, I agree, Chris Durand did a great job as myers in my opinion. He truly captured the castle walk from H1 very closely.
Wasn’t that Tony Moran who walks up to Laurie to choke her??? Maybe there was an edit and it was Castle who walked up to Laurie. I’ll have to watch that scene again. Warlock may have been copying Moran and not Castle.
I never thought of that, but yeah I know it was definitely Moran who did the choking, but I’m not sure about when he sneaks up behind her. However, I’ve heard Jamie Lee Curtis say it was Nick castle who raised up and turns his head to the beat of the music in the background just before he stands up before choking her, so maybe it was castle walking behind her, and Moran for the choking and unmasking. And of course it was a stunt man who did the balcony fall afterwards.
