Hey guy! I know that there was a thread created my Michaelantern on this already, but it hasn’t been posted in since 2009. As we all know, Myers masks and the community as a whole has changed and advanced quite a bit since then. With that being said, I am going to ask the same question Michaelantern asked 7 years ago!
Of the nine films in the Halloween franchise that features Myers, which mask has been replicated the best and which mask is still in the biggest need of a more accurate offering?
Since the same mask was used in Halloween and Halloween II but the look is different we will consider these as two different masks solely for the purpose of this thread.
H6, due to multiple masks being cast from different production masks and some coming from the reshoot molds. I’d say the RZH masks are right up there as there are so many accurate ones (but there also exists more inaccurate ones than H6 has). The Brute car mask is pretty easy to get an accurate one of as well if that counts.
Least accurate is a tough call, H5 is tough to get right, but there are two accurate applianceless masks, and two accurate appliance added masks (even if most aren’t thin enough to replicate the film worn look well enough). H4 is a tough one, but there are three cast off a screen used mask and some solid replicas from CGP, NAG, and MCS, plus another one or two nice replicas. You don’t often see H4 or H5 masks compared to the others either.
That being said I’d say accurate Resurrection masks are the toughest to come by. There are few options, and a couple seem to be enlarged recasts of Collector’s Edition or LE masks. The Cinema Secrets deluxe is pretty accurate for an enlarged mass produced mask, but there doesn’t seem to be many out there with accurate paint jobs, nor many finishers fluent enough with the mask.
Great post! I definitely agree with most of it. Although there are some accurate RZ masks out there, there are only certain copies that “nail” the look for me. Also, I definitely agree with you on there being a lack of accurate and accurately painted H8’s out there!
For the most I’d have to go with the Creep and 75K, so many good Replicas out there of both. I agree with Darkness and Ghost H8 and RZH1, as for least accurate out there. Dela Torre’s Buried is the grail for RZH1 and RL Destroyer is solid beyond those I can’t say I’ve seen any accurate copies. H8 is brutal to even look for one, the CS ones are good but mass produced, solid frames but always need a better paint job. I’ve seen quite a few H8’s Ben Killah has turned around, but man there isn’t much out there at all.
I would have to say H5 has been the has been the hardest to recreate. The SSN Shanks does a damn good job, but there is always something little wrong with every other one. Whether it’s the brow, the eyes, the painted tint. I would say that H6 has been the best replicated. The fact that there is a extremely accurate mass produced mask of H6 speaks for itself. H1 and H2 are in close second!
ill definatly be happy when an accurate h4 and h5 mask are produced in a large run, really hoping tots gets the rights to make them,we could really use an accurate h5 mask thats readily availible for ones who want them.
_My opinion has changed since 2009. I would now say that the most successfully replicated mask is RZ’s Halloween. Once the animated head was used it was pretty much game over. The KHDW can nail some looks in Halloween II almost perfectly but it doesn’t nail ALL of the looks.
My opinion of the least successfully replicated mask has not changed, it’s still got to be the Halloween 5 mask. I’ve came closer with the work I have had completed on my SSN Shanks but there’s still quite a bit of room to go. I’ve not seen ANY replica that really nails the look to the degree I would like.
To me H1 has tons of options to choose from, many screen-accurate, etc…hairing and finishing work requires subtlety but not a huge amount of work necessarily. The most successfully replicated. H2 comes next as it’s harder to get the Warlock stretch, all the weathering and so forth, but still tons of great masks. The least, probably H5…don’t see many of them, the ones that do show up never look quite screen-accurate to me. RZ is well-replicated due to animatronic head/sculpts but the finishing work requires so much detail that there’s inconsistency, hard to get it just right…
H2 is definitely the best studied and well reproduced mask there is. The H1 isn’t the hardest, but it’s paint is insanely difficult to replicate, mostly because it’s paint rubbed off through production of the movie plus the various different people whose worn the mask throughout the movie. Thus, we get a mask that varies from scene to scene, and it’s very hard to get an H1 mask replica that everyone can agree is THE look of the hero. The H2 mask, on the other hand, had one actor wearing it throughout the movie, didn’t change a whole lot in terms of paint, and is very much more well studied in both paint and shape. For the most part, everyone can agree what the H2 mask is supposed to look like.
The least well reproduced mask, I also think is the H5. Like the H1 hero, it changes from almost scene to scene, I don’t think it’s ever been replicated exact.
