No Michael, but the same plot as the 1983 movie, with Silver Shamrock and masks. I think, if done right (I’d turn it into a horror-comedy, but very dark - a lot of over the top dead children scenes and jokes, perhaps similar tonally to the My Bloody Valentine remake in 2009), it could really be a hit, especially if you lean into the critique of capitalism in the original movie a a bit harder. You’d have to drop the “3” from the title, and maybe even “Halloween”, though.
It’s perfect casting. Mads was born to play Conal Cochran.
And then you could run with the anthology idea for two or three films after. Let Michael rest for fifteen or twenty years the way Jason has, while exploring the original concept, before bringing him back.
I’d be all about a sequel to H3 as long as it’s not produced by Jason Blum. The man’s incapable of making films without heavy-handed political propagandizing.
As for the story, I always assumed that Challis succeeded. Some kids died, but not many and the incident quickly disappeared from public scrutiny. Challis repaired things with his wife and became a loving husband and father…by all appearances. Inside, he was tormented until his death with the knowledge that somehow, Cochran survived. This is strengthened by the popularity of a new face-altering app, created by a company owned by Cochran’s great-nephew. He’s the spitting image of a young Cochran and Challis knows that the warlock didn’t die that night: he instead transferred his consciousness, perhaps to an android body. Challis is prepared to investigate when he’s killed in a car accident. His grandchildren discover his journals and look into it, while a Halloween night update of the app promises a once in a lifetime chance at winning ten million dollars for those who update at 9 PM on All Hallow’s Eve.
Just the tone, which was a straight horror film interspersed with extreme comedy, and not the plot or anything. There’s an element of HIII that’s overtly comedic that I’d like to see brought to the fore.
Like, 90% of an HIII reboot should be straightforward. But it should have moments of extremely edgy humor, mostly involving dead kids.
