The Project/MaskFest

Holy Cow, that is just so fricken awesome news right there, we cannot wait to see this awesome conversion by the man himself. We all know James and Mike are the conversion Kings and are outstanding at the magic that they spin on our Kirk’s but I am soooo excited to see this conversion from beginning to end from the man himself…Dean

WOW that is incredible. Looks like you had a blast! Keep us posted on this project. Would def love to see the outcome.

Sounds cool!Cant wait to see the outcome.

Wow, this is really neat, I can’t wait to see the outcome.

What kind of Kirk was that by the way looks really nice.

Thanks for the compliments, guys!

It’s a NAG Classic Kirk (NAG '09 Classic '75 Deluxe as signed on the inside by Nikolas Dresnios himself) but there were modifications made to it to make it look more like the original (the lips were slit, the ear holes were punctured, and JC did the excellent hair work using the exact same kind of hair that was used on the original), it’s the same mask in this thread, https://forum.michael-myers.net/t/my-nag-classic-kirk-returned-from-a-trip-to-a-barbershop/41158/1 and thanks for your compliment! :sunglasses:

This is a very cool idea, Colby. TLW is a great guy & I hope he works the same magic he did back in the spring of '78.

This should be very interesting to see when it’s finished.

Huge congrats on getting TLW to tackle a project like this.
Can’t wait to see it finished. :sunglasses:

Thanks guys! I’m glad that this project strikes y’all as interesting, cannot wait to receive it back and post pictures to share with this community! :sunglasses:

I hope I’m wrong, but I think you would have been better off giving it to JC, Justin or Dennis. Seriously, when was the last time he converted a Kirk? 30+ years ago?

Again, I hope I’m wrong.

Chris

I agree w/ this. I mean it’s AWESOME that TLW is converting it and that alone holds value. But I just can’t see how he’ll replicate it exactly how he did so many years ago.
Sorry to be a downer. I just think other artists could really do a better job. Hope TLW knocks that thing out for ya though!

Sorry but I have to agree with Chad on
This one.
It’s very cool n I hope it comes out great!
But it’s been a long time.
And why it would take 3 months to do
One mask when he probably did all 3
In less than a day back in 78 is unknown
He himself said he really didn’t take his
Time with them n wanted the imperfect
Look. I just don’t think he can catch lightning
In a bottle twice… But I hope it comes
Out well n I hope we can view the
Process on DVD or something

That’s YOUR opinion, Chris and thanks for sharing it. Do I think that TLW will accurately replicate the Hero? NO. I honestly don’t think it will be anywhere near as accurate as JC’s work, I even pointed that out in this thread, viewtopic.php?f=1&t=78129&hilit=Tommy+Lee+Wallace from 2 months ago. Okay lets look at it this way, when Primo put his '75 Kirk on eBay which he converted when he was just 14 years old in 1979, did it look anything like the mask used in the movie? NO. It was far off, the eye cuts were horrible, the eyebrows even had a brown color, and the hair was not even dyed brown. Did that stop Chad from offering him 2 grand for it? No, because Chad knew it was special even though it didn’t look much like the Hero. Granted, I would have done the same thing if I had checked eBay as frequently as I do now back then. Why? Because, as all of you know, '75 Kirk is RARE and almost IMPOSSIBLE to come across these days. Now, some of you may not agree, my Kirk will become special because it will be converted by the same guy who converted the Hero which was his LAST conversion out of the 3, 4, or 5 Kirks back in 1978. He told me himself that the main reason he was interested in this project was that he wanted to put it on a film, I didn’t ask him anything about the film because all I kept thinking about was the questions to ask him about the 3 '75 Kirk masks that were seen in a picture (which he claimed that he had no known whereabouts about them). But I will tell you what, I’m pretty sure that the film will be somewhat big, possibly a documentary film because he put it in the contract to make sure that I wouldn’t claim the “resultant footage”. So, I know nothing about the film except about that it will be shot with Hi-Def and some techno-babble equipments and he told me that Sean Clark will help to take care of technical issues (if any). Maybe, we will see it turn up in a special feature part of a Halloween DVD. I’m in the dark about the film as all of you are. TLW told me himself that it would be highly likely that it will be LAST Kirk he will ever convert since he will be done with putting it on a film which is his main intention to agree to do this project. Hopefully, it all goes well.

It will take 3 months (which is a maximum turnabout period, so it will be possible that it will be even less than 3 months) because he said he needed to set up an environment to do the film and he needed some time to get the right equipments to make the film, I hope we will get the chance to view the process as well.

either way, it will be cool.

Just thought I would share some pics I took of my Kirk mask just before I left for the Horror Hound Convention (before he messed up the hair   ) and a small update from Tommy but it isn’t much of an update as they are still figuring out the schedule for the filming. He sent me this email on Easter day.

Hey Colby,

Happy Easter to you and your dad.

Just got back from my sojourn in Kentucky – early spring was great there,
every kind of weather known to man.

Wanted you to know I am now ready to focus on mask-making.
Will be in touch with Sean down in southern California come tomorrow,
and will go from there.

Just wanted to keep you in the loop.

I’ll be in touch when my schedule is firmed up with Sean.

All the best, Tommy

Well, I think this is Great and Cannot wait to see the outcome! I, myself, would have no problem taking this chance/opportunity. The Conversion, like I feel, might just Surprise Us all! Good Luck and keep Us Posted! Bob

That’s awesome man, congrats! I normally hate conversions, but this is one that I can’t help but anticipate!

I don’t see the point in counting the years back to the last time he converted a mask. He did it once without ever having done it before in his life yet somehow he might forget…Or won’t be able to do it again? Of course he’s not going to get it exact, it’s going to look pretty simple & pretty white & probably a bit rough but at the end of the day he’s still got a mask converted by the man himself done up the same way (for the most part). I will be curious to see how it looks under light.

A conversion by James or Dennis would “look” cooler or nicer and can be achieved pretty easy but there’s not too many times in life you would get the guy who made the Hero look the way it did to actually do the same to your mask. It might look a little off to what we are use to seeing until you light the mask.

Something like this isn’t about hoping he makes it look the same or hoping he didn’t forget but rather enjoying the fact that, THAT mask was converted by the same guy who did the same thing to the “Hero”. There’s not too many masks converted by TLW floating around. Who knows, It might just come out looking pretty damn cool but just having it, knowing that mask was converted by TLW is a good enough reason to be happy he agreed to do it at all.
