I’m trying to figure out the perfect size Michael Myers mask before buying one. I measured my head. Around the brow, it’s 23 and 1/2 inches. I want the mask to fit me the same way it did Nick Castle in the original movie. I’m thinking a 24 inch mask should be good. What do guys think?
Unless you have a longer face, the mask won’t fit exactly like it did Castle. That’s why the same exact mask looks long in H1 and wide in H2. Most guys just open their mouth for a “Castle stretch”. Or you could buy a H78 or 75k Castle for a mask with the built-in stretch.
As for the size, it’s preference. I don’t like masks skin tight at all. I’d say 24.5 would be ideal but some say half an inch above your head size is ideal.
This. Also, you should ideally look for a mask that is either half an inch or 1 inch larger than your head size for it to be comfortable on you. Now if you do have a long face like Nick Castle, the mask should be smaller than that, as the actual mask was on set, though it would be uncomfortable, and tricky to get on and off. I think the best way to go is get a mask with a built in Castle stretch, and make sure that mask is half an inch or 1 inch larger than your head size, so for you, that would be either a mask size 24 inches or 24.5 inches. This way, you get the best of both worlds…the Castle stretch, AND comfort.
To clarify, my face is not long and narrow like Castle. It’s a bit more on the wider side. I’m thinking 24.5 inches should be fine. I’d hate to go through the trouble of buying a mask and then having it be either to big or too small.
I’m also concerned about the lasting life of the mask. Handiboy has the option of making the masks out of Permatex, which makes it last much longer than the standard latex mask. I’ve recently decided to buy a mask from Nikos from N.A.G masks, but he doesn’t use permatex. It would be a shame to spend $250 on a mask and have it fall apart in a few years. I messaged Nikos about this and he told me that the best option would be to get a thicker pull.
More on the budget side, I received aTOTS H2 and Elrod this week. The H2 is slightly too big and the Elrod is way too tight. The H2 works nicely if I wear a beanie hat.
Nobody knows what permatex even is and no latex mask falls apart in a couple of years lol. I have masks almost 20 years old in mint condition. If you want a mask that’ll actually outlive you buy vinyl. All the best maskmakers, including Nick, use Latex 99.9% of the time.
