The Tarantino Halloween that almost was...

As incredible as it sounds, it actually almost happened! Back in 1993/94 Quentin Tarantino and Scott Spiegel actually wrote a treatment for Halloween 6 and sadly Trancus and Dimension could not come to an agreement on how exactly the story would span out. I was told it was pretty was much like Carpenter’s original and the abandonment of the Halloween 4 and Halloween 5 story line and basically “Myers” stalking some babysitters. The story basically put “Myers” back at it like a cat playing with a mouse. It wasn’t an exact copy of “Halloween” but it would have helped “Halloween” go back to it’s original roots.

Don May, Jr. who is working with Scott Spiegel on a DVD and Bluray project told Don that the dealings with Trancus was torture; that the producer wanted all creative control and that’s when Quentin and Scott withdrew from the project.

I remember there being a Fangoria article on this but since Don was right there with Scott on Sunday, I had to have Don ask the questions.

So what do you think, would it have actually helped the series or would it have doomed it worse than “Halloween 6” actually was.

Doesn’t sound bad. I always thought the sister / niece / second cousin / man in black aspects weighed down a simple, powerful premise. Which should be “Michael kills women who remind him of his promiscuous sister. Roll Credits.” Is Taratino suited to this kind of flick? Not that I’ve seen but I would have given it a shot.

Although Halloween 6 (Producer’s Cut) wasn’t a bad film at all, going back to the roots of the original Halloween is, or would have been a damn good idea. As a matter of fact, it is something that the legion of Myers fanatics have been waiting for since…1981.

i think it would have been far better then what we have seen.the idea alone is better then the sequels.tommy

Don said Scott is looking for a copy of the treatment for me to have. It sounds like it would have gotten the series back on track but I guess back then, leaving the story line was just out of the question.

I think it would’ve worked because it worked with H2O. They dropped the Thorn |> story line, brought the story back under control and made Halloween feel like Halloween again. It worked well in 98 but I think it would’ve worked even better in 93.

I heard about this awhile ago, it pisses me off that it didn’t happen, being a huge Tarantino fan and a huge Halloween fan it would’ve been awesome, and I get even more pissed when I look at what H6 actually ended up being.

I really enjoy most of Tarantino’s films.
I would’ve loved to have seen this.

It would’ve worked cuz anything Tarantino touches turns to gold.

Tarantino never lets me down so it’s too bad it never came to light. Personally, I think the Halloween series had no business going past the second sequel as far as Myers is concerned but with Tarantino on board I’d have made an exception.

This would’ve been badass. I’d love to read the screenplay.

However, I read;

“It was rumored that Quentin Tarantino originally wrote a draft for Halloween 6; this is untrue. Tarantino merely suggested his friend Scott Spiegel as a potential writer for the film. Spiegel’s pitch for ‘Halloween 6’ was rejected and Tarantino was never involved in the project.”

Humm, even the Fangoria article states Quentin was involved, he’s the main person interviewed; with Scott being a friend and that’s usually how Quentin works, with friends. I know a treatment was written with Quentin’s involvement; whether it be 100%, 50%, 25% or even 10%. From what I gathered it was basically a short story of their version of “Halloween 6.”

Seems an odd couple to me, but I like Tarantino, and I like Halloween, sooo…maybe.
The problem is I liked Rob Zombie, and I like Halloween, and look how that turned out, so I’m a little jaded on the match up.
I really can’t begin to think how Tarantino would of gone about it, but I know I would of bought a ticket and had popcorn and cherry coke ready for one hell of a ride.

Quinton’s would have been a great watch as he’s a really creative guy…Has a hell of a foot fetish but has a great sense of style with movies.
