Anyone else feel this way? I thought that storyline was absolutely atrocious
while i don’t blame the writers (they didn’t have the best to work with given the random plot threads the writers of H5 left them), yeah it was pretty bad. seeing The Shape just awkwardly standing with the rest of the cultists during the ceremony is definitely up there in the top 10 most laughable things i’ve seen in the Halloween franchise.
Most people don’t realize it, but H2 was responsible for first hints of cults, Samhain, sacrifices etc. The fact Michael wrote in blood ‘Samhain’ on a chalk board, and stabbed a knife into a child-like drawing of his sister, well that’s enough to hint at something.
H4 had no mention of this; the ending was pretty definitive, should have stayed that way.
However H5 introduced the thorn tattoo. The deleted Dr Death scenes actually have the tattoo applied to Michael in that film, which would explain why he didn’t have it in the previous installments, however, H6 the Producer’s cut, transfers the tattoo, and curse, to Loomis. Michael walks free again, to resume his killings.
H20 originally had a scene in an early draft that mentioned Jamie, and Laurie threw up in the bathroom, presumably from guilt for leaving her there to die. I guess she was too young, had to give her up. I think the father was the ambulance driver from H2, seemed that way. Faked her death in H20, died in a car accident in H4. The links are still there, despite the rewrites.
I still think it’s very possible Michael resumed his primary target after H6 the Producer’s cut.
But H2 actually caused a ton of loose plot threads, so I respect H6 for cleaning that up, doing the best it could to tie it together.
I agree, I have always hated the thorn cult stuff. It’s amazing how if you watch H1, then watch H6 right after, it’s hard to believe it’s the same franchise.
Wow this is a really well thought out response I’ve never even thought about that dude, thanks for sharing that’s pretty cool.
I actually like it, but H6 didn’t do a great job of it, since Donald passed away, H5 did with the original Doctor Death footage
I know the majority hate it but I personally enjoyed the hell out of it for the most part. It’s not perfect by any means but I felt a lot of it fit into the mythos ok. I absolutely love the comics and I would have LOVED to seen what Farrands actually put on paper for the actual part 6. To each their own!
I’ve never had a problem with it, looking back I think the real problem was in execution, The Budget Issues, the Production Drama, too many cooks in the Kitchen, Harvey Scissor hands etc.
at that time, in the 90’s, it was not a surprise to get some sort of twist to an origin, it happened to an extent in Freddy’s Dead The Final Nightmare, it happened massively with Jason Goes To Hell The Final Friday, Hellraiser:Bloodline(which shared similar issues from Dimension Films) did it’s origin Story for “The Box” which was new and revelatory. So it wasn’t a surprise at all(to me anyway) that it was happening with Michael, and at the time I was thrilled, I was 12 years old, was a Huge fan of 1,2,4 and lesser extent 5(could not properly appreciate 3 at the time) I had seen 5 a few years earlier, and as a viewer(a young one) who wanted answers, and along came this movie calling it’s self “The Origin Of Michael Myers”(before title change) and the early promotion I was seeing for it was thrilling, I very much expected it to be a Finale.
Then I saw the Movie…Great Atmosphere, very creepy and intimidating Michael, a lot of weird stuff, I hated Jamie’s Fate, and in the third act it just lost me, I could make no sense of it(obviously I wasn’t the only one) I left the theater wondering how it would be followed up, and in my mind I couldn’t see it, but I also didn’t get a lot of what the movie had seemed to Promise.
When H20 came out, I was initially surprised that they were ditching 4,5 and 6, but it didn’t bother me enough to not see it, I was thrilled Jamie Lee was returning, I had high hopes for it, and although I thought the basic story was great, and the idea of it was great, and some great moments, it didn’t feel like Halloween to me, and Michael didn’t feel like Michael, he felt like a total fraud, so when it ended(pretty much how I predicted it would) I didn’t feel anything really in terms of 'Finality" did feel a rush, but that was about it.
A few years later I heard about the Producer’s Cut of part 6, and it was certainly news to me, I eventually got to see it, in it’s less than flattering form, but I enjoyed it, I felt a satisfaction that I had wanted from the Theatrical version, certainly it could have been way better, but it was nice to see a version of the film that did not feel hacked to bits, made some sort of narrative sense, and provided what on the surface seemed like an Answer to Michael’s Evil, yet in the final shot, retaining that feeling of “Even the Curse can’t stop Michael, he’ll never stop”
Part 6 came out a quarter of a century ago, it was a different time, it was of it’s time.
I agree with everything said! … except I absolutely despised H20 lol I can remember when Curse was advertised Halloween 666 as well! lol he 90’s were interesting
Exactly. To me he’s much more terrifying when there is no explanation as to why he’s killing. The simplicity of the original is what made me a fan.
Spot on man. I believe the series has lost sight of that as it’s gone on. They keep trying to up the ante with every sequel, but that only further removes it from the greatness of the original. It’s all icing and no cake…needless fluff.
I remember liking the kills a lot as a kid when we would rent it on VHS. The story, I wasn’t necessarily bothered by.
As an adult, I still enjoy the kills. The cult stuff is way, way too high-concept to the point of illogical absurdity and doesn’t belong here in this franchise, and the incestuous stuff they actually had the nerve to write in is super weird and they should be ashamed of themselves for doing it.
It is objectively a bad movie, but has solid kills and a cool mask (albeit the ears are huge to the point of being distracting). Michael also looks pretty pudgy in this movie—They needed a slimmer actor for this one. He has a noticeable belly which, like the huge ears on the mask, is distracting when Michael is on screen.
I was just laughing with a friend about how bad that storyline was. It makes the movie unwatchable for me lol.
I have to say I appreciate the 2018 series for going back to it’s roots: Psychotic man obsessed with killing. Plain and simple, disturbing and creepy.

Glad they went back to the roots as well. Gonna be interesting to see what Halloween Ends is going to be like.
I for one hated the whole story of THORN until I watched the original Halloween 5 opening with Dr. Death. Halloween 5 is so different than the previous entries and they just tried to throw a new element into the story that I feel it works. I now actually like it and it doesn’t bother me. But, I love quirky elements though.
