Hey gang. It’s been a while for me since I’ve posted. I need some advice. My wife and I are thinking of making a trip to Pasadena to check out some of the shooting locations. I always wanted to go to a convention since H25, but I live in Louisiana, and funds, plus logistics, were always a problem. I messaged Sean Clark and asked for any upcoming conventions, and he mentioned Monsterpalooza in the fall, and that “if” another Halloween convention happens, it won’t be until a H45 convention, if that is even a possibility. What I’d like to know is, for those of you that have been to the conventions, the tour, and seen all the cool spots, 1) was it worth it? 2) are there tours that visit these spots at any given time of the year? 3) what are some decent hotels to stay in in close proximity to the locations? 4) is Monsterpalooza worth waiting for? or 5) should we just make a trek with a GPS and find everything on our own? Also 6) when is the best time of year to go? I’m basically looking for any and all general advice, because this is something I’ve always wanted to do.
I’ve been to the Myers house once when my band was touring in the area, and it was a thrill.
Thanks in advance for any consideration and advice.
Not that I know of outside of the Halloween conventions. It’s more a personal journey.
Couldn’t say XD Check around the convention center, there’a a few around there.
It’ll be cooler, so yes, I would advise that. However, the fall Monsterpalooza (“Son of Monterpalooza”) is in Burbank, about a half-hour away. I just went to Monsterpalooza proper last month and loved it, so it’d be an additional blast and a good way to spend the day. The H1/H2 filming locations are another day in themselves.
Yes.
It gets HOT here in the summer, and it’s a dry heat. I’d really recommend coming in the fall, around Halloween itself, or Son of Monsterpalooza in September. It’s warm all the way through November here.
One thing to note is that the filming locations of H1 are in South Pasadena, which is a separate city that, being someone from the midwest, does give me very strong Midwestern vibes, and Hollywood for the Doyle and Wallace houses. H2 is in Sierra Madre just north, Arcadia, and South Pasadena, as well as a few other places.
Hey thanks a lot WhipItGouda. That helps me make my decision. I was thinking along similar lines, but wanted to hear from someone who knows the territory, so I appreciate it. September sounds like a good time. I’m sure the convention will be the icing on the cake for the trip.
I’m in Lafayette! I’d love to do what you’re thinking of but funds are a problem for me as well. I’m thinking of visiting the Myers House NC sometime this Fall. It’s closer and would probably not cost as much.
Hey Nightstalker! I’m in BR! I too have thought of the NC house. I’ve visited his website a bunch. I was lucky enough to be in Pasadena that day and MADE my band stop. They weren’t into it but tolerated me. I wish I could’ve visited all the spots but we were on a tight schedule and had to get to our next gig. My wife is into the trip and wants to go with me, so that is awesome.
If you’re a fan of Halloween and horror, yes it’s totally worth it! Though Son of Monsterpalooza is not as big as Monsterpalooza, I say go for it. But honestly, you should consider going to Pasadena during the Halloween season. Heck, maybe even spend Halloween there. You could also check out Universal Studios horror nights, or the Haunted Hayride. L.A. has so many cool things going on the Halloween season. As far as Hotels go, stay away from Downtown. Too damn expensive. You could find good prices near LAX, Venice or Culver City.
