I don’t know how to find a UK link, Noble, I’m sorry.
I’ve gotten pretty good at locating these, though. I took a quick look on eBay and found these. They are pretty heavily worn (which can be nice for comfort AND authenticity/accuracy), but notice the cracks in the sole. If they’re just for costume, they’re basically perfect. They are fairly cheap. Size 10 Regular. Made in 1966. These are the real deal.
Here’s another pair. Size 10. Auction ends in a little over 4 days. Notice the date stamp. June 1966. Triple 6. Lol. I almost bought a pair made with that stamp on it just to have them.
Say, did you ever get your coveralls repaired? I recall you saying the shoulder separated. I’m scared to wear mine outside of my home for this very reason. I ended up buying some Big Macs recently that I can have fun in.
Man I really want a pair of these original boots. I’m a size 13, but they only have a 13 narrow or 13 extra wide. My work boots are 13W and are a little loose, so I’m not sure if I should take the chance. No idea how tight the narrows would be, and I feel like the extra wides would be like clown shoes.
If your 13W work boots are a little loose side-to-side, the 13N should be fine on your foot. I wear an 11.5R and I had to buy an 11N. The 11N fit me just fine. They’re a little snug, but I’d take that over wearing something that felt too big. If you’re going to wear them a lot, maybe try to find the correct size on eBay. If they’re a novelty for your collection, the 13N should work.
I’m mostly going to wear them for photos and to add to the collection, so I won’t be wearing them for very long at a time. Glad to hear the narrows should work for me! I think I’m gonna go with those. Thanks for posting the link and for the help, Hedge!
I have an update on the boots. I bought them from the linked army surplus site 2 days ago. I am an 11/11.5 in everyday shoes, and in my danner boots a 10.5. my foot is as regular width as they come(I sold boots for years in college so I know sizing really well which is why I was hesitant buying a narrow boot). I ordered the 11N and they fit like a glove. They absolutely are stiff and need to be broken in, but my regular width foot fits fine in the narrow boots. not to mention they got here in 2 days! I will say it is a bit eerie wearing them knowing their indented wearer was supposed to be some innocent young man man sent to die in Vietnam. they really are the real deal, they have an aged smell you cant replicate and comes with the original decades old hang tag with care instructions that warns you you can become a “casualty” if you dont dry your boots and change your socks enough.
Good to hear the narrow size fit you! I’m hoping I get the same result. Mine should arrive on Monday. So glad to be able to get the real deal. I never thought that I’d be wearing new jungle boots that were made 20 years or so before my birth. This hobby is something else!
If the consensus is the narrow aren’t very narrow after all, I may get these, too. I love the current ones I have now, I wear them all the time, but they are Panama tread. I guess it wouldn’t hurt to go legit and join club Vibram lol.
theyre just slightly less narrow than an actual narrow fit shoe or boot. the consensus is narrow fit is a 1/4 inch narrower than regular fit shoes and 1/2 narrower than wide width. I would say due to the age of these and how quickly they were produced they dont quite fulfill that standard of 1/4 inch narrower than regular. if anything theyre snug and feel as though they need to break in and are stiff due the tread being spike proof. for a mass produced boot they are very good quality. Proudly made in the USA
Got my boots today. Very happy they fit when I tried them on. The only thing is they arrived with some scuff damage at each toe, mostly the right foot. Not sure if I should send them back and see if I can get a different pair. I’d feel kinda dumb for complaining about a few scuffs to boots that were made in the 60s so I’m hesitant to do that. Not sure if there is anything I can do myself to darken that area without altering anything too much, as I’d like them to remain as authentic as possible. I suppose i could just leave them as is, but I just want them to look right. Maybe I’m just nitpicking too much. Any suggestions?
