Used for the mazes at Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights, and supposedly made to resemble Rob Zombie’s Halloween Michael Myers Mask. Hardly.
Your thoughts?
Yeah I never liked that custom RZ mask for Horror Nights. They also did another custom one a few years ago with their H1-H2 house, but it wasn’t nearly that bad. The hair was miserable, but the actual mask wasn’t terrible. Now they just use TOTS masks, which in all honesty is worlds better than those horrendous custom masks they were making.
That one custom mask from a few years ago I think has potential if you could get one and rehair it and tweak it a bit. But that RZ mask is just, I don’t know, it’s not even in the ballpark.
Honestly haha! I’m hoping they will learn from the past and hopefully use a more screen accurate looking mask for the next horror nights to come! Michael Myers is an iconic figure in the horror genre after all.
They haven’t used that mask for years now. That was way back many years ago now. More recently was their H1-H2 house where they used a custom mask, but it wasn’t nearly that bad. Still not good, but not nearly as bad as the RZ themed mask. Since then they have been using TOTS masks. They used TOTS masks in their most recent H4 house. The TOTS masks are at least accurate enough that it’s not completely ridiculous like those custom masks.
Yeah this Universal Horror Nights RZ mask is going on a decade old this year. Last I remember this being used was 2010. So it’s an old one at this point. Like I said, a few years back they did another custom one for their H1-H2 house, but it wasn’t as bad. It was not good either, and the hair was horrendous on it, but it wasn’t as bad as that RZ one. They had experimented with using TOTS masks one year before that H1-H2 house, and now I guess they finally have an agreement to use the TOTS masks going forward, so they have been using the TOTS since then.
That’s great news then! I haven’t been to a horror night since I went to Niagara Falls a few years back. Screamers which is now called Haunted Asylum if I’m not mistaken. I remember for Michael Myers they used a Don Post 2007 mask which wasn’t too bad at the time. But that’s great to hear! TOTS masks are really well done in terms of sculpture. Just a repaint and you’ve got yourself a pretty close to screen accurate mask.
Yes honestly it would of made a big difference. Just glad to hear TOTS masks are being used in halloween haunts now. That’s a big step up if you ask me.
Imagine if Universal Studios could hire Rambly (I think that’s his name?) To convert a good number of TOTS H1’s, then they would be in business for sure! People would know what scary really is.
