TOMMY LEE WALLACE converts a Kirk TODAY!

He also states in the video that the details were brought out by the lighting

If you’ve ever used the Streak and Tips hair color, you’ll know exactly where a lot of the dirt marks on the mask came from. It’s dark and sticky and gets caught on your fingers when you touch it. So if you touch the hair (or hold the mask by it), then later adjust the mask by touching the corner of the eyes, the tip of the nose, the mouth, etc., you get The Mask. Combine that with the paint wearing off and you get a masterpiece. [emoji6]

I might try this…

Yes it is, even after he sprays the hair, you can see the paint stain the kirk in spots from handling it, which is essentially how the hero gets the way it does throughout the film, plus it would come off over time with pulling on and taking it off, and you can see lighting is the key factor to bringing out the kirk features

So basically Tommy used Streaks and Tips, in the video you can see it getting all over the flesh tone from his dirty hands, so spraying it white very lightly would cause a sort of grey shadow in some areas, as it would still show through, ALSO, the mask was not held or kept very well on set, there is actual pictures of Nick Castle holding it by a strand of hair, or picking it up by the nose… this would be a case of the hair paint (Streaks and Tips) rubbing all over the mask when touched. The cheeks might have been more prominent from lighting, and/or a combination of spraying the mask and it not catching under the cheek lines, depending on what direction he sprayed it, for example if he sprayed it from above in that motion, it would land on the mask like that, and wouldn’t cover the indents under the cheeks properly anyway. Probably also why the neck has way more flesh tone under the chin, because it was not sprayed from that direction.

ALSO, Tommy did say in the video that they kept tweaking the mask on set. You can see at the end of the 1978 movie, the mask has black paint around the inside of the eyes, probably to try and fake the eye cuts a bit more from bad cutting, or, maybe it was just marker pen lines left from before the eyes got cut; that part is a mystery.

I’d say thoseblack around the eyes would be from pulling the mask off and on, or adjusting the mask while it was being worn, Warlock would have done it cause it made the marks on the forehead in H2, plus I have yet to see the picture of the hero mask getting pinched by the nose, holding it by the hair I have seen

I think I’ve watched this video 47 times if not more lmao

Really cool stuff. I’d like to do an authentic Kirk conversion and let it weather by itself. Would be cool to see it change from all the wear and such. I believe that’s a classic 75 Kirk from nag that he did the conversion from. Always loved the classic so it’s cool that’s what Tommy converted. Great video!

This thread has to be my favorite in the years I’ve been here and is one of the reasons I stick around. Thanks to the OP and to everyone chiming in with their thoughts and insights. No negativity, no petty bickering, just fans geeking out about what they love and sharing their thoughts and experience.

I love how he just paints it pure white. No “painted on” shading. No stupid cream color on the neck. THIS is how it’s done. Love it!

Stupid? The flesh tone on the neck was due to the paint wearing off due to the actors touching that area of the neck a lot. I don’t think it’s stupid, as it’s accurate and apart of the appearance of H1 (and a major part of H2’s appearance) but to each their own.

I don’t recall the cream color in H1. HII may have had some slight fleshy discoloration in the neck, but it wasn’t as bad as the replicas make it out to be.

Either way, in general, I prefer the all-white look. I’ve always hated it every time I saw an H1 or HII replica where the neck was super creamed out. Genuinely thought it was stupid.

Then, I hate to say it, but you genuinely hate the way the mask looked. It was painted with cheap paint that didn’t adhere to latex very well. It started rubbing away almost immediately. By the end of the production, all three masks weren’t in pristine condition, if they ever were in the first place.

And it didn’t get much better with H2, either. This is how it looked in 1983, when Dick Warlock brought it to the set of Friday the 13th Part 4.

Amen brother!! My favorite too!!

The way it was lit in the film (H1) it wasn’t noticeable at all. It was barely, barely noticeable in HII. It just looked more dirty than anything.

But I actually love the way the masks look in both films. As they are seen on screen, they both look great. It’s the replicas that are intentionally made with the fleshy neck I hate.

The way Tommy does it, the way he intends it, is all-white. That’s vastly what I prefer.

Nick Castle might have pictures from when he had the hero after filming H1, and it was just mounted on a wall as a display piece

Are you sure it wasn’t noticeable at all in H1? There are multiple scenes where it’s clearly visible.

I appreciate that you guys are pointing out that there are flesh tones shown in the H1 film.

I think he is just trying to give his opinion on the look what he sees of the Shape mask, and prefers the all white version with no flesh tones. Each individual has a variation of what they see of the Myers mask in the films, which is why we have different finishes from each artist that aligns with our taste.

That is absolutely fine. Just don’t want to come across to pin him down for not liking the flesh tones. I’d admit I didn’t like it initially, but it grew on me over time.

I know, as I’ve stated first, to each their own. Just wanted to show that there are indeed flesh tones in H1 that can be seen.

Your right, to each his own, but I certainly don’t go around Calling the plain solid white look “stupid” just because it’s a look people like. Not my preference, but not stupid either. I think it’s the wording thats causing the back and forth.
