I have the Tots 1963 clown mask and the JD Morgan studios version and figured I would do a comparison.
Price- JD Morgan studios $100
Tots- $15
Pretty big price difference, but I believe the difference is in the materials used and the care when being made.
Materials used- JD Morgan studios- resin and hand painted.
Tots- Hard plastic and painted.
Both masks feel sturdy. It appears that the tots uses a plastic mold and the “skin” color is the whole color of mask unlike the JD Morgan one, it is a white resin then whole front is painted.
Paint job-
This is where I notice the most difference. For some reason ToTs has yellow on the eyes where green should be. Actually you shoul have three colors. Green, blue and white. Tots just has yellow and white and the areas for paint on the eyes are not even colored all the way in.
The pic they used for advertising pretty much looks exactly like the JD Morgan one. A few years back JD Morgan actually used yellow also. Not sure why but soon enough changed to correct colors.
Head attachment- Both use a white elastic band but Tots has slits into the side of mask to attach elastic andnJD Morgan’s is glued on the inside.
Overall both are great. JD Morgan’s feels better and not as “cheap”. But for $15 you can get a good replica and repaint the eyes if your brave.
My daughter likes the JD mask better and says it fits better also.
