So, like most people, I’m not happy with the paint job on this mask. Now I’ve only painted a tots Kirk with latex paint from the FX warehouse, and I just wasn’t too happy with the paint itself. So after some research I’ve come to the conclusion that the rubber cement painting method would be best. So I’m going to pick up some naphtha this afternoon as well as oil paints and rubber cement.
Any tips/tricks to painting with this method? Some people on the Facebook page seem to think it’ll ruin my mask. Also, best sealant for the paint? I was told a matte medium varnish. Thanks in advance!

I posted a really good video that answers some of these questions over in the pre-order thread.
Mixing acrylic paint with a bit of liquid latex has always proved true for me.
Oh yeah I saw that video! I just was told mixing acrylic with latex tends to be more likely to crack over time.
What liquid latex do you use?
Not sure of the brand. Nothing expensive though.
this.
one part latex, one part paint, and slightly less than one part water. (I actually prefer to use Windex instead of water. It works well.)
Windex? Huh! But doesn’t the alcohol break down the latex or is it diluted enough?
nope. The ammonia in it is just like what’s in the latex. It evaporates faster than water though, which is why I like it. The paint dries faster.
It makes the paint thin enough to run through the airbrush, but then it doesn’t stay wet on the mask for a while.
…plus you can lightly hit the mask with a hair dryer on a low setting to dry it faster. Just be careful you don’t push the paint around with the hairdryer.
