Don’t know if I plan on getting the H1 mask, seeing as I’m perfectly content with my 75k and Creep, but if the people at TOTS manage to put as much effort into it as they did the 2018 mask I’d definitely consider sheerly due to that mean sculpt; I really dig the look and expression it has.
My main concern is the paint application. I was incredibly disappointed with the Elrod and Hospital masks due to how shoddily they were painted even for TOTS standards; the same applies to the 2018 mask as well with a lot of other peoples copies I’ve seen. I actually think the paint jobs they do for their old H2 Deluxe masks are far superior to anything they’ve done recently, and hope they give the H1 mask a similar basic treatment that doesn’t look so glossed or caked on.
It’s funny to look at this situation now a days, because back when I initially joined the site I would’ve been CLAWING for one of these. The promises of year after year of TOTS getting the H1 license was eventually what convinced me I needed to pay the big bucks for something I’d really love and I don’t regret it. That being said though, this’ll definitely be interesting to see how it comes out, along with that H1 butcher knife that looks like it’s made from some kind of aluminum? If it is I’d be very impressed.
Not sure how I feel about the H1 mask. I was pretty excited about them making an H1 mask and really wanted to like it. While it’s a great sculpt I’m just not personally fond of masks with expression. The mask was purposely chosen because it was expressionless and eerie. Adding that angry look kinda runs it for me.
Will have to wait and see what they actually look like when released.
I agree with Nightstalker. More power to those who wish to do business with these people, but I don’t need their merchandise bad enough to condone and encourage their behavior.
After watching the Fyre Festival documentary on Netflix last night, I noticed how much in common Billy McFarland and Chris Zephro have with each other. Chris has nowhere near the same scope of shadyness and fraud in his business dealings (that I know of) but shady nonetheless. The way Fyre was deleting all negative comments on Instagram and Facebook, blocking customers pertaining to legitimate concerns they had and the overall customer service drew uncanny parallels.
Well Chris himself came by and answered some questions about the masks in the H4 and H5 thread. And it seems Justin did full ground up sculpts of each mask. And from what I gather, one main reason for it was to control the size of the masks better, probably in an attempt to make the masks a bit larger and more accommodating to those with a larger head size. Which was one of the main complaints about the H18.
They probably decided that instead of doing castings of existing masks that would once again be deemed too small by folks, that ground up sculpts would be the best way to go to ensure the sizing is better overall for everyone.
Which would be a good thing in my mind. Justin is a hell of an artist and I am totally fine with him doing ground up sculpts.
So if they just laser scanned or cast exsiting masks or molds, they could very well be too small for a lot of folks. Hell, if they did actually scan the H4 screen used, that would be way too small for most people and then you have an H18 problem all over again. So ground up sculpts sound like the smart way to go, and Justin did a great job so I am on board for a copy of each and see how they turn out.
That was the original plan, but along the way, Justin had decided to go ahead and do a ground up sculpt instead, to control the size of the mask better. He used the H4 fangoria cover as a reference. Had they went with a laser scan of the screen used, it would of been a small mask.
They probably wanted to avoid that issue considering the complaining about the size of the H18. This way the sizing could be controlled better and more people can wear the masks. I would rather they do that then do the laser scan and have an unwearable mask.
So they originally planned on the laser scan, but after seeing the backlash over the size of the H18, those plans changed to make a more universally sized mask. Fine by me, Justin is a hell of an artist and it looks good from what I am seeing.
I still don’t think it’s a laser scan of Billy’s old Kirk retooled, but rather a retool of the shat/creep or original casting they took of Billy’s Kirk. Why go through the money and time of 3D scanning something that they already have access to and can easily make to clay that they can retool?
It’s pretty clear to me at this point that there’s little probability of us getting a solid or honest answer from anyone, since everybody contradicts each other so we don’t know what’s true and what’s not.
You were just clearly told that all three masks are new sculpts and not retools of anything. You were told scans were made, but due to many reasons, not used. And now you are accusing people of lying. Wow!
Yes, that’s what we were told. We were also told 3 other things so how are we supposed to know what is true? I’m not accusing anyone of lying, I’m saying that it’s hard to know what answer is correct when it seems there is misinformation between every involved party, going off what’s been said.
I know Chris Zephro popped in earlier and answered some questions in the now-locked H4/H5 mask thread. Hopefully he’s still reading and can offer some answers on sizing.
