The 2018 mask is beautiful. A return to form for the franchise, coming up with an brilliant mask. And TOTS has produced a production level replica mask, that with a little tender loving care you can have the hero in your hands. Salute!
Yeah I am extremely happy I found a copy that would fit my 24.5’ head without needing to alter the slit at all. I have seen some really dark copies but I truly don’t even think I need an overhaul on mine
I happen to love the mask from the movie and the fact that so many people with a little work are posting masks that look brilliant, to me is super cool. It is wild I am jumped on for not being negative.
I personally have spent thousands of dollars trying to catch lightening in a bottle and have a hero replica that I was happy with. So to see so many with nearly perfect canvases and being creative is beautiful in my opinion.
I don’t mean to jump on you and I’m glad you love the mask. I think what I reacted to (and I suspect others would as well) is lauding TOTS too much for this mask. It’s great that they’re offering the most accurate mask possible, but between the pre-order debacle, Zephro’s callous dismissal of fan concerns, his general arrogance, and the fact that the mask is undersized so that TOTS can get people to double-dip later on mars what should have been–and easily could have been–a truly epic time for the Halloween fan community. A new movie that skips the awful sequels, the return of JLC, Carpenter on the score and offering story input, and a mask that honors the original? What more could you ask for? A replica in more than one size so that ALL fans can wear and appreciate it at the premiere and/or Halloween night.
The TOTS replica is selling extremely well but because of poor management and greed on the part of the company’s owner, many fans can’t fully participate in enjoying the new film and our favorite holiday. That’s why there’s a lot of valid negativity out there and I hope to see the effects of this mismanagement on the forthcoming TOTS H1 and H4 releases.
TOTS did not “come through big time,” they half-assed what should have been their greatest achievement and proved they care more about money than the fan community. May they reap what they’ve sown.
At the same time you have to realize it’s a business. They’re not going to always do what’s best for the fans. They do what’s best for business. However, I agree they should have made the masks a little bigger to compensate for others with larger heads. No argument there. As for Chris Zephro’s attitude, I have never met him and therefore can’t judge him. Giving him the benefit of the doubt, what you see as callous dismissal and arrogance may be that he gets a lot of repeats of the same questions and lots of negativity for trying to do the best job possible and it gets to him. We’ve all been there. There’s no denying though that TOTS is a great company. Compared to most of what Rubie’s puts out and what Don Post used to put out, they are by far more dedicated to giving us the better product.
Now, comparing those previous two companies (one of which is defunct) masks to TOTS, combining that with the frequent negativity that TOTS and Zephro must get a lot for various reasons (most of which I’ve heard is why the masks don’t look exactly like in the movie) don’t you think that would get you upset if you were him? Again, not saying TOTS or Zephro are perfect, no company or person is, but to be harsh on them when they clearly try to provide us with better products than anyone else is just unwarranted.
If TOTS and Zephro got more suggestions that sounded a bit more professional instead of the countless droves of whining and complaining about things, maybe they would be more inclined to make changes. Kill them with kindness and you may see results at some point.
I agree. I found my old Paper Magic “The Mask” last night, and even with it repainted, it doesn’t even come close to actually looking like Myers. And it was $40 when I bought it. The 2 TOTS I own are much thicker latex, so that they actually hold their form and you can even stand it up on a table usually. I’m sure TOTS is doing well, but after you figure all of the costs involved, the licensing, etc. with running a business, $60 is a deal.
Here’s my display, I’m no mask pro but I touched it up and it looks great
