I think that’s pretty common for the Myers mask. I get most of my best pics in the shade or on a cloudy day. I also edit the lighting and color in a photo editing program to get that perfect look. I honestly think even my most high end masks look goofy in direct sunlight.
Yeah, so in the other threads I was seriously fretting over how this thing looked in high lighting. Soon as I got it I was just like “Ohhhh fuck. please no”.
Then it got darker in the room and I was just like damn never mind
Yes, it definitely looks pretty featureless, and yes high end masks show the weathering. Depending how handy you are with acrylic paint, you could weather it up a bit, cheeks, nose, forehead, eyes etc…they just look rushed to me like they just slapped on a coat of white and that’s it.
I actually don’t think my gifs make it look too featureless? The definition can be seen to some degree. I just need to film it in lower lighting maybe. IDK, my opinions are mixed. I know I like it more than my OG TOTS H2. That one is far too colorful for my taste, but again the original movie’s design is my favorite.
Too white is what I mean by featureless. I tend to like a H1 mask with a bit of grunge on it to make the features pop even more. Used and abused end of H1 look is how I like it. Its really all about lighting and shadows. Set up a dark room with certain angles of light hitting it just right, you’ll surprise yourself with how the mask can look.
Idk if anyone could give some advice on this, but I am hoping to find a paint process tutorial for when people make/paint their blanks. I feel like even a light shade of grey with my copics could improve the eyebrows and cheeks, but I need a good reference. The shape is fantastic IMO, it fits me perfectly, I just want to darken some areas.
I find that while paint can be as important as sculpt, hair and eyes on a Myers mask, the thing that truly brings these masks to life is the lighting. A poorly lit mask can bring even the best sculpt to it’s knees. What I mean is here’s my Psycho in direct sunlight:
And here’s that same mask in the shade. The difference in lighting really brings out the detail:
Yup, I think the lighting rule even applied to the hero. Some of the behind the scenes pics of it look somewhat goofy compared to what we see in the movie.
