TOTS Elrod Weathering

Pulled out my Elrod mask from last year and decided to attempt some weathering to bring out some of the features.

I’m no expert and used some black acrylic paint with a fine point brush and q-tips to apply. Diluting in water at times to keep it light so I could gradually build it up if I wanted.

I would have wanted to go little darker but it always stands out too much and doesn’t blend well into the mask.

Here’s a before pic

And after

I just wish it looked that good when worn lol for some reason these masks have a better display than worn look to them. Maybe it’s just how it fits my head shape

Looks MUCH better with just a little weathering.

Looks great. I have two Elrods and have done the eye holes and some weathering. Can you please tell how you got the eye holes so good, please? What precise tools did you use? Again, looks great!

Nice work!

I widened the eyes last year. If I remember correctly I used cuticle scissors and just traced the original lines with a sharpie the width of the point of the marker (as to not go overly too big) and cut them out. Then I used black paint to go over the latex where it was cut

A dremel tool with the felt polishing barrels make light work of removing and smoothing out latex. When I used to make masks I’d remove any excess flashing with cuticle scissors and used the thin and wide polishing barrels to smooth out the seam. That would work here too, just a different application. I’m in the process of overhauling a ToTs H2 to a H1 conversion and I plan I doing that with the eyes. I’ll post the results when I’m done.

Looks good man, nicely done!

Thanks guys. Any suggestions to make it look more like an H1?

Should I darken the weathering or do more weathering in areas I’ve missed?

I still need to add the glue lines on the sides but waiting to do those last.

It looks nice! Maybe try doing some of the weathering with some raw sienna watered down and applied how you did the greys. I think that would look cool, like making it look like the white paint is thinner in some areas and the flesh tone is showing through. Still looks great as is though!
