TOTS H2 Economy Version?

Ok, first off I have no idea about the mask making industry or costs or anything. So this is probably going to be a very stupid question.

Looking at these pictures of the TOTS H2 mask being made, I wondered to myself if skipping all the paint process and moving straight to hairing would result in a cheaper mask? An economy version if you will? I think the mask would still look rather cool without any paint, and would also serve as a blank canvas to anyone interested in customising their mask. And it’d STILL look about fifty million times better than anything Don Post Studios (R.I.P) have put out in the last ten years.

Again, I’m probably asking a dumb question… go easy on me guys

Damn that’s a lot of masks. And frankly, I think that’s an interesting idea giving people the ability to paint on a blank slate if they so choose.

Or even just purchase it like that in a store. Cause apart from natural weathering and fleshy patches, that’s what the original mask was supposed to resemble. It’d go down a storm in Halloween stores I imagine… everyone’s used to seeing shitty Myers masks and this would be a very affordable yet accurate mask.

Be interesting to see what a blank would look like with just hair. I would buy one for sure.

I really like your thinking man. there are a couple of problems. Selling with the idea of blank canvases wouldn’t be good for halloween general folk, only collectors. Also another thing about them not being painted- Chris always says he wouldn;t ship a mask out that he wouldn’t have in his colelction so i can;t see him selling them like that. But again i like your thinking and it would be cool. Would like to see one painted like an 86 DP - pure white with the brown brows

That wasn’t my thinking haha, I meant the general public would just see it as a Myers mask and anyone in the community could customise it. I mean those unpainted masks I posted look so much better than any of the 'The Mask’s put out in the past ten years and they have no paint on. That’s what I mean, that the masks out there atm (especially in the UK as you know) have no detailing anyway.

I would compare a blank TOTS with that crummy molded hair Myers you see at stores.
Now careful how you interpret that. What I mean is that cheap junk they sell at the stores sell every year and they usually all sell out. I see stores after Halloween and those masks are usually all gone from Spirit, Party City as well as the stores that show up every year just for Halloween.

The mask is plain and looks nothing like Myers.

Now take a TOTS blank, cut out the eyes and add hair and put them next to each other on the rack and I’ll bet any amount of money that even if the TOTS were $10 more, it would out sell that other Myers by far.
Just add a similar sized hang tag to catch the eye of the customer and watch them sell.

That’s exactly my point.

The blank with the appropriate holes added (eyes, ears, nose, mouth) and hair would attract so many casual buyers.

I’m talking about the customisation aspects as a side effect, really.

Mom?

Oh yeah, i know what you’re thinking. I am talking practicality. After all businesses have to be very precise when thinking of their target audience otherwise things can fall through too easily. Like i said from a personal standpoint though, i like your idea

I imagine it would be very practical to offer a general Myers mask, it looks like the character and is basic and nondescript, as well as even more affordable than the painted H2’s which are a great price already. If the Don Post '06 can still be sold in stores today, filling the shelves in some stores, then I imagine this would be a success each year and turn people onto the character more because it, y’know, actually looks like him. The shitty DPs of the past have reached a target audience - people dressing up as the character for Halloween. This idea of a stripped back economy version would have both the general public AND collectors going for it.

I know they have enough to be concerned with at the moment, and we as a community can’t thank them enough for the H2 they’ve released, but I think introducing levels of pricing and detail would be very rewarding for TOTS and for us.

Whilst I’m 99.9% sure my idea won’t be noticed, one can dream, eh?

I have to agree it would be a good and cool idea. I would buy one definitely!!!
:axe:
