Hi, im a longtime visitor but only just signed up (shame on me i know!) and i’m after some advice…
In September i am flying over to Vegas (from UK) and will be ‘popping’ over to California to visit all of the locations from the 1st Halloween in Pasadena and LA for the first time! I cant wait!
I’ve watched many videos on dvd and youtube of location visits and read many threads on the subject however one thing i’m abit worried about is the reactions of the residents…
Its mentioned a few times that a few of the residents are a bit negative towards tourists/sightseers (which is kind of understandable) and i’m curious to know if any of you guys have had any bad experiences whilst visiting these sites.
And if you have any advice for a first time visitor to our ‘Graceland’?
Thanks in advance!
UPDATE!************************************
Hi again! just got back from holiday and have a few snaps to show off!
No problems at all going around these sites despite my worries and i really enjoyed seeing these awesome locations! Really lovely areas to hang about for the day!
There was a cop on the scene at the Myers house who had literally just kicked a group of people off the grounds for filming and being a nuisance but luckily he was cool with me getting a couple of quick snaps!
Not sure if you have seen my video/channel or not, but I have been to the locations twice. (While you’re at the babysitter homes you might as well go visit Freddy’s house about a 1 minute drive away). My Location Video (Picture in Picture)
As long as you keep to yourself you should not have a problem. As I said, I’ve been a couple times and have had no problems. The owner of the Strode home LOVES tourists. She even leaves a pumpkin on the porch for your use of pictures if desired.
Thanks guys! I have that video saved on my iPhone ready for the trip actually! Very handy!
I’ve read a few places the lady who lives in the strode house was cool, I’m just abit hesitant to just walk up to her porch haha. Plus, with it being September would the pumpkins be there yet? I think I’m most worried about seeing the Myers house, I don’t want to have someone come out and have a go at me and ruining the while trip! Haha
The nightmare house is also on my to do list! Maybe the church from The Fog too…
Sweet! I also have a video from the ANOES house. If you are into American Horror Story…the “Murder House” from season 1 is somewhere around there too if I remember. Might be a just a bit of a drive.
I think she has fake pumpkins there year around? Not too sure. I did not go to the Strode house my first visit…but on my second visit it was September and there were pumpkins there. However, there was an interview with John Carpenter where Carpenter and the interviewer went to the house and there were a couple pumpkins there. Pretty sure they are fake. She has a welcome sign, do not feel hesitant.
As far as the Myers’ house…are you going there on the weekend or week day? If it is the weekend, there will not be anyone there. If it is a weekday, it is a business and they ask that you do not become a nuisance. If you mind your own business, and do not disturb anyone you should be fine.
I regret not going to The Fog church, as it is my second favorite horror film. While you are there you might as well visit some Halloween II locations. I will hopefully be doing that my next trip. Happy that you have that video saved. Glad to help!
EDIT: Keep in mind, these people bought their homes understanding that they were used in a very popular horror film. They went into it knowing that people would be visiting.
It’s okay. Either way you would probably not go inside. Just enjoy the outside…I don’t see that there would be anything that arises that would ‘ruin your trip’ as long as you are respectable.
I would be tempted to have a look at the hallway through the door window but nothing more… Like you said the residents know what they got themselves into haha.
What would you say was the best part of seeing these places? Was there any particular stand out moments when you went? Sorry for all the jackass-y questions but I’m starting to get excited now! haha
All of the locations are as equally exciting to me. Make sure when you go to the Strode house that you see the Moustapha Akkad plaque across the street. I featured it in my video, so you are able to reference its location. No one location stands out over the other. You’ll enjoy them all. Also, take note of the Nichol’s Hardware Store across the street from the now re-located Myers’ home. Also, shown in my video.
I really would like to visit Tommy’s school, possibly when I go back for some Halloween II spots.
I would also like to see the school but seeing as I’ll be visiting during a school day/hours I think it would come across abit strange for a grown (bearded lol) man to be loitering around! Haha
I did see the tribute and the hardware shop and will definitely be on my to do list!
Thanks a lot for your input and advice! If you think of anything else please holla at me! Any advice is welcome!
Wont be a problem, last time i visited the locations i happen to go when it was school hours. I had a Halloween t shirt on people knew exactly what was going on. Nobody said anything. never had any problems.
Wow brother those are some kick ass shots! The hedge pic is incredible, I would take every mask I had and take pics there!
Thanks for sharing those dude!
I concur, fully! I dug all the pics, but that one blew me away. It looks exactly the same after over 35 years. Great shot. Very similar angle to the film. Makes me wanna suit up and go out there!
