They’ve updated the 2018 and RZ mask product photos.
What do you think?
It’s definitely a bit frustrating how they don’t re-take all the Myer’s masks product photos at the same angle and lighting at once…
Anyone who gets bent out of shape about the product photos they use have to remember one thing: They might not have had a choice in the matter, it might have been Universal dictating that they use the best possible photos of the mask.
Now that Universal isn’t part of the process, they clearly have switched to true production copy photos.
I’ve never once seen anyone around here take that into consideration. Now you can
Please remember the H40 is from the actual movie mold. Imagine if we had the opportunity to have a 1978 movie mold? This entire hobby is about chasing the perfect look. The H40 is $60. When you do a little work its the screen-used mask. You can always tell new guys from OG based solely on respect and understand.
We’re beyond blessed with the Trick-or-Treat Studios line-up. Genuine lineage for H1 and an exact copy from the 2028 film. Thank you Justin
It is strange though that they keep using so much dark paint on that mask. It’s literally more work and labor hours to do so. The kills and ends mask aren’t like that so why the 2018?
It isn’t more work or labor. If you were around for the original run when it was announced and released, the pre-ordered masks took priority leaving very few in stores or easily accessible. These were the copies people complained about the dark paint.
You have to realize, they aren’t going for depth of detail. Generally speaking I’d have to say of the three films the Ends mask would be the most time-consuming. Then I saw that the hair was done at once as all masks are with the “spiderwebs” already attached.
Mostly bro I would never take Promo photos seriously. Justin and Chris got SO much hate because of the original promotional photo because it was quite literally perfect. I’ve never taken promotional photos seriously. You’d be very surprised how quickly you can finish a lineup of unhaired masks while using an airbrush. They aren’t done on a one mask basis as independently offered masks are.
Personally I do agree there is a bit too much black in most copies I’ve seen, but there are little tweaks required when attempting to satisfy the masses. The first run had too large of a size gap, and resolving this I can imagine took some man hours so the focus was really on that over anything else. Lastly, if I’m being Justin knows that over 50% of these masks are going to be altered (closer to 75%) so Trick-or-Treat Studios for me is basically the place to get a cheap copy of a mask to send to your favorite artist to give it new paint and hair.
Lol okay I’m done. It’s been explained but I just saw you quite literally joined after the mask was released. The entitlement is wild. If it took less time it’d be done and it’s facts over feelings. Money talks. You have a movie mold mask for $60 first of its kind. Thanks again Justin.
I’ve been on this forum since its inception my guy lol. I’m not entitled at all… merely posing I would think I pretty simple question. Do you work at Tots? You seem very sure of yourself. I’m pretty sure Justin is going to be okay if a fan of his work asks about a slight possible improvement. I’ve owned many tots masks over the years and they’re pretty darn good but everything can be improved upon… it’s called excellence. You seem very offended lol
What was your username “my guy”? Speaking as somebody genuinely who was here since Day 1 and would still be mjlsmyers78 if Terry Lampbert had not deleted my account for calling him out.
I try helping people. I took my time to explain in entirety the process. But you respond as if you know it all. So why ask? If you’ve owned so many TOTS masks why did you even make this thread lmao. Not one release in the history of their Michael Myers catalogue looked identical or even close to the photos. Nothing became more apparent than the H40 in which EVERYBODY was in an uproar because the Prototype was used as an advertisement rather than an actual stock copied that was painted.
I don’t feel like arguing. The comment David posted is accurate. I literally went in-depth but you’ve made the weird conclusion light paint takes much less time than dark? Since you’ve been here since inception, you’ll remember the photo of 50 masks side-by-side all with the same exact paint. Do you think the airbrush cares what paint is put into it? Justin has been a friend of mine forever, and going from $350 masks we loved to complaints about $60 masks just shows a lack of understanding into how far we’ve come since NightowlPro forums.
I have no earthly idea what my username was all those years ago lol. I’ve been around since the psycho, NMM 78, Beckstrom, my first mask was the original Don post the mask… a long time ago. I didn’t start this thread lol. Stop taking questions so personal lol
Btw…. Make no mistake, I LOVE TOTS. I have always been a defender of them and love their product. I’ve always been of the mind that I’d rather spend $60 on a fresh mask every 5 or so years than spend $400 on one that I have to take extra special care of. They’ve given the community something VERY special. I was just simply asking why in that specific case. It’s odd to me that the dark detailing takes less time than just mostly flat white but apparently you know more about the process than I. I just didn’t understand why since their detailing has improved with the kills and Ends version why they didn’t just use that same process now on the 2018
My only complaints with the 2018 were the size and how they were shipped. Zephro and Mabry addressed the latter issue and I understand why they can’t/won’t address the former. There’s being a shill for TOTS and then there’s realizing that the products they offer at the quantity and price they’re able to is second to none in the industry. You don’t have to love everything about all of their products, but you’d be ignorant at best and moronic at worst to deny the quality and affordability they offer.
I want to apologize sincerely for the tone my messages gave off. I read them over and it genuinely isn’t you. I guess I still have this odd trauma from 2018-2019 with H40 man. So many people joined just to complain about the promotional photo.
I now can truly see you understand the game and have genuine respect for art and independent artists. I entirely understand the annoyance of maintaining indy masks. I guess I’ve been friends with Justin for so long, I feel as if I have to defend him. So many trolls were banned but ah what a nightmare.
You know more than you realize as well man. The paint seems like it’d be the easier route but the honest truth is these aren’t professional artists like Justin painting the masks. Once the base coat is on, with a few tweaks during, the masks are dry enough for the airbrush to add the black details. It is weird how painting these works but it’d actually take an additional coat to make it look reasonably accurate and being on the lighter side. I’ve never spoken to Justin directly about it, but I do agree with you. The yellow especially on the first run almost entirely took over and STILL wasn’t visible beneath the black.
As for the hair again I agree with you. I apologize again for assuming or generalizing at all man. You’re a good dude and it’s understandable. I’m actually hoping it is like the original run on the Kirks and some do have that blonde hair! If I find a copy when they’re released at my local Party City I will keep my eyes open. If there’s a copy with that strawberry blonde hair I’ll grab it for ya man. I’m hoping 2024 brings us good masks, great health and happiness
Oh you’re totally good man… no worries. Thanks for that explanation… makes sense. Yeah bc of Tots I probably won’t ever buy indy again. I know that sounds horrible probably but I just can’t part with that much money for a mask. The indy masks are absolutely incredible but at the end of the day, getting a movie accurate sculpt and a pretty good paint job in most cases is completely fine with me. And just knowing that if it gets messed up somehow I can just go to the website and order another no problem is perfect! Hell I could easily afford to get a new fresh one every year just for the hell of it! Lol And well wishes to you as well.
