I’m finishing up my first H20 rehair right now. You want to use hair extensions that are described as “like human”. Medium brown is a pretty safe bet on color regarless of brand. I used halos. Halos are hair extensions that are wide enough to go about 3/4 of the way around the back and sides of the head, about 12 inches. They come in different lengths. You will need a lot of it as many more rows of hair are needed than is typical with other hair types. Because of the way hair behaves, any gaps in the rows will show. You basically want to cover the entire head in hair. I used three 20" halos for 60 total inches with a little left over.
This kind of hair naturally lays very flat and the edges of each strip is very blunt. It will look extremely choppy. You will need to give it a full cut to fix this as it doesn’t simply blend like crepe or mohair by wetting it and running your fingers through it. After the cut, I rubbed my hands with very strong hair gel (this glue stuff made by got2b). Then I gently rub my palms and finger tips through the whole thing to achieve the messy and spiky look rather than flat and straight. It’s almost like giving it a scalp massage. You can also take individual tufts of it and roll it between your thumb and two fingers. Then finally, apply some strong hairspray like Aqua Net to keep its shape.
It’s much more of a difficult process than the way most masks are haired and can be frustrating. I’m incredibly pleased with how mine turned out. Once I finish the hairline, I’ll bust out the camera and snap some.
