I always hear about how it was based on the H20 mask, and I’ve also read on this board that it was based on Jamie Lee’s face. What’s the story behind this thing? Is it an original sculpt, or did it begin life as an H20 mask? Was curious, and couldn’t find an answer.
Original sculpt by Cinema Secrets with the winston h20 as reference.
whatchu talkin 'bout willis…
Cinema secrets basing it on the H20 mask is much better.
Haha, I didn’t make that up, just what I heard!
Thanks for the answers though, guys. I’d like to hear more about it though, if there is any more to tell. Why couldn’t they just reuse the H20 mask? Stylistic choice? Then why make it so close?
Makes no difference to me, that movie was an insult to the entire series. In my (not so) humble opinion, in this case.
myerspimp is correct!

I hear you man. I consider it as much an insult as Rob Zombie’s movies. (Resurrection is more lame, but has the benefit of actually being set in the original universe.) I’m a “take the good with the bad” kind of person though, and Resurrection and Rob Zombie’s still get played like once a year around here.

Very cool, never seen that before! I guess the molds for the H20 weren’t around for them to use? Or maybe they just wanted to tweak the sculpt, for whatever reason.
Oh man, I’d take Zombie’s 2 attempts any day over ‘resurrection’. Gotta admit that the mask ain’t that shabby though. I’d probably like it more if I liked the movie more! For me my Halloween “marathons” always end the moment Jamie Lee chops the guy’s head off.
And if I’m bored I’ll pop in the Zombie films.

Yup, (1,2,4,5,6) (1,2,H20) and (3) for me!
Yeah 3 is ok too, as long as the “silver shamrock” song is muted, otherwise it gets stuck in my head for days.
I’m probably the oddball of the conversation, but the Resurrection mask always looked to me like it was molded after Muhammad Ali. Yea, I know. WTF, right? I dunno. That’s just who I picture when I see it at certain angles.
Aside from that though, Resurrection was also the movie where I felt like Michael was being turned black if that makes sense. There were certain scenes (like the one pictured) where it seemed like they were deliberately doing things to make him appear black. Perhaps to further appeal to the rap audience they were trying to attract by casting rappers for H20/Res? Could be just me, but I sense it.
Nice afro, Mikey?
If there’s one thing that RZ’s movies did I’m happy about, it was veering the series away from that direction. I was never a fan of the Halloween in da Hood concept it seemed like they were going for. Keep Leprechaun in that world if you want. Michael Myers doesn’t belong there.
I’m sure that probably has a lot to do with trying to appeal to the teen crowd at the time, like H20 and Scream before it. It’s just incidental that hip-hop, MTV, and stuff like that was prevalent at the time. I may be way off here, but I feel like the current appeal is towards retro stuff. I’m sure if we received another Halloween made with the intent to appeal to the current teen crowd, it might look and sound something like House of the Devil (not that that’s really a bad thing.)
My favorite mask in the series, horrible movie though.
The only good thing about resurrection is that they brought back the original myers house and tried to replicate it as faithfully as they could to the one we saw in 78. Theres even a behind the scenes video where they show the set and inside the house and all that. They could have chosen a new house like h4, h5 and h6 but resurrection at least got that right.
Bumping up this thread!
H4 did not feature the Myers house.
