I Just bought a 12" Wearever chef knife, which I believe to be the 6130 model. i was wondering if anyone knew this knives history, currently my understanding is that it was the precursor to the Cutco 102-12 with the only difference being the handle shape and material.
That is partially correct.
The Wearever 6130-12 and the Case12" chef knife existed at the same time before the merger. Eventually, Case and Wearever merged and it is believed that the two knives esentially became one… the 102-12".
However, contrary to popular belief, the Case 102-12" did not look much like the 6130-12 for a few decades post-merger. It wasn’t until the late model 102-12 was released in the early 70s that the similarities were obvious.
It was as though Case, wanting to refresh the look of their kitchen cutlery, went back a few decades and borrowed from the design subtleties of the 6130.
That is what I believe to be true.
Congrats on the great score! I love the 6130.
Thanks so much for the information! Do you know if it was the later model case knife that was used in Halloween, or the earlier models?
The knife used in the film was the very last model Case offered before the 102-12 was discontinued.
It was made in the early 1970s.
yippee, hopefully that means my knife is decently close to the movies!
That’s a beaut! Enjoy!!
Where’d you find it?
i got it on ebay for $150 (not sure what i shouldve paid lol)
currently working on removing the patina with lemon and baking soda
That knife is a very, very close match to my case 102-12 replica that i got from theHEDGE. Wow, that is very nice man, thats is a awesome score!
