I attempted to weather my coveralls, I just rubbed some sand paper on them, put them in my driveway and walked all over them and kicked them around, dragged them thru the back yard, lol it is barely even noticable though. Anyone have any other better ideas? thanks in advance.
(The knife is a JC Rob Zombie knife, my dad gave it to me, I just grabbed it for some quick photos lol)
First wash them in the machine hottest water setting with a cup of bleach diluted in the water.
If you want the grease/oil stains for the weathering, you need black fabric paint. I bought mine at walmart its made by Tulip
it comes in an acryllic paint style bottle.
Take that in a red pastic beer cup, then mix some paint with 1/3rd of water mixied to thin the paint.
Brush it on a scrap of paper until there only a little of paint left on the brush then brush it on the coveralls.
The obvious areas that would get dirty knees,elbows,sleeves/cuffs/etc go over the pockets etc until your happy
This took 10-15 minutes with just black fabric paint
One of those red plastic beercups full of bleach in the washing machine. Set up the machine for a full load wash.
you add the cup of bleach into the water that fills up the washing machine, so one of those cups in a full load of water
in the machine.
Wait for the washer to fill up w/ water before the cyle starts, add the cup of bleach into the laundry machine full of water
then add the bleach stir it around to dilute it THEN add the coveralls in the washing machine
After altering the collar and front right pocket, I’ve washed these (occasionally with some bleach) over a dozen times after wearing them (yard work, etc.). I figured they’d be a little more weathered looking by now, but I’m happy with them…
I recommend you not to weather them by kicking them around in dirt. Unless you want to smell like Michael Myers, I would say fabric dye spray or paint is your best option. I bought a can of permanent fabric dye spray in black. I recommend you just spray all over the coveralls in patches to get a nice H1/2 look. If you want to have your coveralls look more realistic and worn, I recommend you use a dry-brush technique with paint. Essentially what drybrishing is, is when you take a sponge or chip brush, dip it in paint, then brush off most of the paint on a newspaper, then start brushing the coveralls. This will give it a nice, subtle, chippy, dirty look and you can always add more. using sandpaper or sand block is great as well. Don’t be afraid to do a generous amount of sanding.
