Hello all, I want to weather my workrites but there aren’t any pics showing the weathering. Do you guys just do whatever, or are there pics out there I may not have seen.
As far as the 2018 coveralls go they have a very grimy greasy look saturated more or less all over them and are quite a bit faded from there original color. I recommend washing and drying them multiple times and when you dry them throw about 3 or 4 tennis balls in with them this well help with softening them and help with the fading natural weathering process. After you’ve done that there’s a number of ways to give them the grimy greasy charcoal splotchy look. You can take a mixture of black/metallic gun metal gray acrylic paint and olive oil mixture like I do and use a weathering brush/natural sponge all over them. Also a dark shoe polish along with some olive oil mixed in will also give them that grimy dingy dark look. There is a few topics on this forum where someone has showed there process of weathering them. Hope this helps!
Thanks for all the info. But what pics are people using as reference? Is screen accurate in play here or random whatever?
Well seeing as how there isn’t a whole lot of weathering done to the coveralls in the first place and what is done is just mainly saturated dark greasy parts scattered about the coveralls. Yes I assume most are just going random with it or accurate to the best of there ability. And as far as pictures go google is gonna be your best option.
I tried. They just look blue.
That’s what I mean by there isn’t much weathering done to them other than some lightly saturated black grease/oil on them sparatically and just a little bit of fading.
Question. Why do you use black/ Grey metallic paint?
Before I started any weathering, i washed them. Then I sanded the pockets with 80 grid sandpaper, after that i used black acrylic spray paint for the chest,knee-and back area and the acrylic paint for the pockets, sleeves and waistband. I also removed the snaps
I can’t give away all my secrets.
Ok. If you say that’s what you use, but then dont explain why and share for everyone to benefit then why bother mentioning it?
I was being facetious, what do you mean explain why? It’s blatantly obvious of why, I mix the two colors together to weather whatever it is I’m working on at the time. Idk what kind of explanation you are searching for. It’s a simple mixing of two paints and applying such with a simple weathering brush.
weathering is a simple process and you have youtube for tutorials, not everyone is gonna give out details, because it’s easy to figure out
Let me simplify this a bit. I never asked for a dissertation about “how” to weather coveralls.
I mearelly wanted to know if anyone had any good pics of the weathering for the 2018 film. I myself couldn’t find any. But there are people in here that may have such photos because they may have a source or found something that may have been missed. This is a community and sometimes people share information back and forth. That’s all.
Then I was curious and asked why you chose metallic paint to do your weathering. I’ve never used metallic paint for grease stains and simply wanted to know why. No dissertation needed just an answer.
Then it seems like am being told to count my brain cells because its so easy to do. Its one thing not wanting to share, that’s cool brah. But its crossing the line a bit when you want to come off like an expert by giving real big answers and telling someone to go to you tube and try and figure it out.
2 simple questions that’s it.
Devil I wasn’t trying to be rude at all man. I stated above about the new workrite coveralls and the weathering, there isn’t much weathering at all to them. Just more or less saturated grease stains in random areas and the coveralls are a tad faded which can be achieved by several wash and drys and like I already stated and throwing a few tennis balls in the dryer with them helps the fading process. As far as why I throw a little metallic gun metal gray in my black when weathering certain things is it helps to show the color up more and gives it more of a pop in certain lighting almost as if bits of metal dust from say a mechanics shop floor had got stuck in the grease. No harm no foul man that’s the best explanation I can give.
That’s all I was looking for man. That’s a very good idea. Metal dust. You learn something new everyday. If I came off strong I appoligize.
As far as screen accurate we will all have to wait to see what the movie reveals.
Your fine man I came off strong as well. I agree the movie is gonna reveal it all the best!
That’s all I wanted to know. Very interesting about the metal dust look. You learn something new everyday. If I acted strongly I do apologize. As far as screen accurate we will all have to watch the movie and go from there.
Yeah if you ever need anything done send it my way. My prices are very fair.
I left my reply the other day. Now I come on here to see that its gone
That’s all I wanted really some answers. Interesting about the metallic paint I will give that a try. I wasn’t trying to be a jerk, but it makes you feel better i apologize. As far as screen accurate is concerned we will all have to wait and see what the movie has in store and new pics soon after.
