Sorry if this has been posted before, But i’m curious to see why you are fans of the franchise. Personally, I find the character of Michael Myers to be an interesting one, because there is a complete lack of character, at least in the first one. He’s a nameless evil that stalks the night with no Rhyme or reason, and that, to me, is truly terrifying.
Exactly, I agree 100%. Michael is definitely one of the reasons I love the franchise. I also love the music because it’s simple, but effective and creepy. Then there’s the lighting, gotta love the dark shadows and eerie blue light
And lastly, how can I not mention Dr. Loomis? I love the guy. He brings a unique layer of seriousness, maturity, creepiness, and darkness to the franchise that most “horror” movies at that time lacked. He had so many great lines that everytime he is on screen, you can’t help but focus on him and every word he says. That is also another big reason why I love the franchise, the seriousness. Whereas Friday the 13th and Elm street are cheesy and over the top, Halloween always seems to be grounded in reality. I mean, if you were in the situations presented in the Halloween franchise, you certainly wouldn’t be laughing about it, because there’s absolutely nothing funny about it. This makes Halloween feel more real and believable. Don’t get me wrong, I like the F13 movies too, and I do enjoy the humor they have, but I have to be in the mood for it. They way I see it is this…if I just want to relax and have a few laughs, I’ll watch F13. But if I’m in the right frame of mind to get into something dark and seriousness, I’ll watch Halloween.
I just think michael myers is the greatest horror movie baddie ever. I remember the first time I saw h1, don’t remember how old I was but I was way too young to be watching it. It scared the hell out of me but I was also fascinated with it and really wanted to see it again but had no way to because this was before there was internet and there was no way my parents were gonna get it on vhs for me.
It was a few years later before I saw it again and I absolutely loved it and started seeking out the sequels although I saw h4 and h5 before I saw h2. At the time I loved all the sequels although these days I only really love h2. But back then it was more than enough to make me fall in love with the franchise and I remember being desperate for a michael myers mask, although I didn’t actually get one until 3 years ago.
I think the reason I love halloween so much is because I was fascinated with michael myers when I was a kid. For me characters like jason and freddy just don’t have that “it” factor that michael has
I was about 9 when I first saw the original Halloween and it scared the crap out of me. But I also really liked the Michael Myers character and wanted to see the movie again. Halloween was very subtle compared to Friday the 13th and A Nightmare On Elm Street and much more serious and scary. It was a more realistic movie which is what made it so scary.
what’s been said, Myers, the mask, the characters. But one thing I really like is the Fall/October/Halloween “Feel” of most of the movies.
like in the way that a lot of Christmas movies “feel” like Christmas, a lot of HalloweeN movies “feel” like Halloween/October.
Agreed. I meant to add this to my statements above.
It’s the whole package for me. Of course it’s The Shape, the mask, the music and lighting. But it’s more than that. It’s the atmosphere surrounding this time of year. That “feeling”, I guess that Halloween/Oct 31 brings with it.
There’s a couple reasons, I really really dig the look of the shape in H1. Down to the coveralls, the mask, and that beauty of a knife. If I were to make a horror film and I were to have a killer, I would be bummed because I know he most likely wont look as good as Michael. He looks eerie, cool, scary, and unnatural. I love the lighting too, which has already been covered here but I’m just gonna say I’m a big fan of the blue light. I love the score, characters, tone, atmosphere, and look of the movie. Easily my favorite movie of all time.

The whole dealio, honestly. Myers is frightening because he’s realistic, and people like him exist. Jason and such aren’t all that frightening. F13 movies are dumb fun to me, and I never got into NoES and Scream much at all. I also enjoy the autumn feel of the films.
This is also where I become a bit of a ‘purist’ as I’m mostly fond of the original film, and prefer to ignore the sequels, though I’ve seen most of them (can’t convince myself to finish Resurrection). Reasons I love the original? I love Michael as the mysterious stalker-killer, rather than an overpowered slasher villain going after his family. It felt a lot more tense and genuinely frightening as the film built up to Michael’s actual on-screen attacks. That, and Castle’s movements were incredibly creepy somehow, like there is just something inherently and deeply evil with Michael’s functions, right down to his basic motor functions.
this movies impact on me was monumental.certain parts of this film were buried in my subconscious.i believe my father watched this and I may have been maybe two at the time.becuase when I finally seen this film in its entirety at about eight.it was as if I remembered these parts of the film I had seen many years prior.the movie left me with so many questions.and I believe at this point is the mystery.those unsanswered questions played on my psychy.made the film all the more terrifying.that this six year old murders his sister and chose this certain holiday.and then patiently waits all these years in an institution.escapes and finds a random target.any in his way unfortunately become collateral targets.that made this film terrifying.didnt need the slice em up gore.which can work for some films in this genre.however.without that.this made the film seem more real.like this is something that could happen in smalltown America.as for the franchise.well.i enjoy the franchise it its entirety some more than others.and some not so much.however I feel they are just in the shadow of the original.h2 and dick warlock as the shape.his movements.his performance.had an impact on me.matter of fact gave me nightmare.not taking from nick castle.my reason being is he layed the foundation for this.had it not been for his performance their would not have been a Halloween 2.characters.i loved dr.loomis.donald pleasance.and the psychological edge he gave the film.without giving away too much info on the shape.he gives these vague answers leaving one to guess.he says I seen this six year child with this blank expression.pale emotionless.the blackest eyes.the devils eyes.all this gives the viewer this vague answer in which they draw up conclusions.like is this shape a version of evil.dr.loomis refers to him as it.and this yet again takes the human away.they could’ve titled this film the babysitter murders.however they chose what they did.and again.wisely so.and lets consider this was a supposed to be a low budget film.yet take a look at the performances of the charcters.jamie lees.wow.amazing.our scream queen.the original.i mean.this film gives so much.nick castles performance as the shape.and what others provided into the character.tony moran whom we see as the unmasked micheal.i can go on and on about this film.i touch on h2.dick warlock as the shape!i mean wow.these films have opened me up to more than just some movie.and im glad their are others like me.like this site.shows im not the only freak out here who is Halloween 365.this place gives me so much.it has opened up my interests.in wrting.in art.in sculpting.in mask conversions.etc.i like being able to be able to share with others my interests.and that they are too very like minded.its comforting top know that mm.net is more like a family.and the comradeship it gives is like no other.and.yeah we may be horror loving freaks.and people may think they just terrible people and judge.but they have no clue.that the people on this site.eveyone horror freaks in general.are some of the best people you can find!would give you the shirt off their back.so to speak.well I wanted to sopeak on this topic.i could go on and on about the franchise.and why Im a franchise fan.
Michael is the only movie boogeyman that I’ve ever had nightmares about. He terrified me as a kid, and fascinated me in equal measure, and he’s stuck with me all this time. Totally iconic.
I was hooked from the first time I saw it. I was about 5 years old when I saw the original on tv (way too young to be watching this movie lol). I mostly remember the opening pumpkin credits and the music. I remember being absolutely terrified by the music along with the beginning POV scene. I was telling my parents “turn it off!” My eyes were glued to the tv as I was saying that lol. I couldn’t look away.
Michael is just the most fascinating horror movie icon for me. He is smart, elusive, somewhat a trickster, and his mask is just so creepy yet awesome at the same time.
Aside from Michael one of the reasons I’m such a big fan is Loomis. Loomis is one of my favorite movie characters of any movie ever. He is intelligent, brave, and humorous in a good way. Whenever he is on screen you really pay attention to everything he has to say.
Of course the music is another key reason why I enjoy the series so much. It is so haunting and really adds so much tension and atmosphere to the films.
I wish there was no “franchise”. Just Halloween. But it is so good that it manages to withstand all the, coat tale movies, without being harmed. My love for it is due to its simplicity. It is brilliantly done. It fulfills the promise of “Psycho” beautifully. Michael Myers is a perfect character in my opinion.
My dad was a big horror nut so we used to sneak the videos upstairs and watch them as kids (cant remember how young but like many, too young to be watching it lol).
He was a big alien fan, my little sister liked Freddie and halloween was always my fav, don’t really know why something just clicked with me about it. Always liked playing manhunt or hide and seek or being a ninja and watching people without them knowing I’m there all stealthy so maybe it was the whole slowly stalking thing ?
The original film. I was a kid maybe 9 turning 10 watching the VHS I had bought second hand from a video store with my cousin who was younger. The cover and the ‘the night he came home’ drew me in. The movie just affected me. H1 is the epitome of the perfect horror/thriller/slasher. Solid pacing, direction, music and an iconic killer look. This was when there was no cellphones, and we would walk home to and from school, ride bikes, be alone when we came home. For almost 3 years I dreaded Halloween because I always thought ‘is this the night’. Movies like H4 and H6 were routinely on cable. I was terrified to go home and look out my window and see him in yard or go to our laundry room that was outside and below the backyard deck. Go into basement alone.
It all just clicked for a young kid. The fear is what makes us human. To think that you could be next, it was random, no reason or rhyme. Movies like The Strangers utilize this premise effectively. ‘Because you were home’. As a kid you don’t really follow the lore as much or understand curse of the thorn, or his sister or niece etc. I think the fact I had watched tons of horror films as a kid shown by uncles trying to scare me. I watched all the F13, Childs Play, Nightmare movies before I ever saw Halloween, but Halloween is the one that defined it all. Just a terrifying movie, brilliantly shot. If I had seen H6 or H4 or H2 first, I would have been forever tarnished towards Michael I feel.
He is everything in H1. The consummate predator while we are all prey. He is there, watching, waiting, biding his time. Is he outside the window? Are the doors locked, should I walk in the halls at night. Michael wasn’t some mentally diminished kid who drowned and was some hulking behemoth. He wasn’t some burned supernatural killer entering dreams, or some toy doll come to life. He was just a boy/man of average height who killed his sister one night and sat emotionless after until he escaped. He just keeps on coming and that was terrifying.
Michael Myers?
