LAST ONE OF THE (DIDN’T LIKE’S) LOL! Thought this might very interesting because H6 has a lot of like’s and dis-like’s in my book and a lot of Myers fans
Didn’t really like the Cult thing going on, I thought it was bad-taste to be honest just didn’t work well with Michael Myers.
Michael was fat too lmao…look like he might of been hogging out on Trick or Treat candy! ‘‘Love George P. Wilbur in Halloween 4’’
I thought the Coveralls were too lite gray in color also, too me Myers coveralls should be a bit darker…not that that’s a big deal or anything!! but that also might of hide Wilburs belly! lolol
It’s funny that you post this now. I just picked up the producer’s cut on Amazon for under 7 bucks, and I’m watching it right now. It has its moments, but I agree that the cult killed a story that was already watered down by the family relations.
I think the atmosphere works ok in H6, with the lighting and all, but I absolutely hate the cult of thorn plot because it completely goes against John Carpenters original concept of Michael just being a force, with no motive, which makes him scarier.
The flu had potential yes it went against the concept of Michael bing pure evil and the cult was apparently making him evil but what killed the movie for me is that Michael has a incest baby just ruined it for me it was a horrible idea
I didn’t like not having Danielle Harris back, and also didn’t like the excessive Thorn stuff and giving Michael a reason ect. As well as the inbreeding crap.
Would like to cut together the best bits of the 2 versions one day.
I do like the film, and the mask has grown into being my favorite non Kirk based mask. The atmosphere is awesome, very good at getting the Halloween spirit going.
I also like the idea of having Tommy Doyle return.
-I actually like H6 a lot (theatrical and tv cuts, not the producer’s or rough cuts, haven’t seen the director’s cut in a long time). That being said it has some issues.
-I feel a couple of the deleted scenes that show up in the tv cut (and they show up in the producer’s and director’s cuts) fit in well. They are just minor scenes that don’t really impact the plot, don’t impede the pacing, and add a bit to the film.
-I feel that the random guitar parts added in, while I’ve grown to not really mind them (it’s not like the H:20 orchestral stuff in being so out of place), they don’t really fit the Halloween style, same with the main theme (and some of the other classic themes) done on guitar (though that is much less of an issue than the random guitar sounds). There’s actually a perfect piano version of the theme in the theatrical cut when Kara is trying to save Danny by running from Mrs. Blankenship’s house to the Myers/Strode house, same with paiano versions of the other themes, there’s one of Laurie’s theme that’s on a level with the version in H1.
-The flash cuts/“subliminal cuts” were way too often, and the stinger/loud noises that followed them are really out of place and fit in more with modern horror going on right now. Have one instance of it with a stinger, the rest just silent. The Exorcist did those cuts perfectly where there was no noise accompanying them; heck Halloween Resurrection had a couple short instances of them with no noise accompaniment that I can recall. The stinger noises were one of my few problems with the original Halloween, they were used too often, once or twice is fine, but the images and atmosphere didn’t need cheap loud noises.
-I don’t mind having an occult aspect, but the actual cult plot (even though the theatrical cut handled it best in my opinion by using ambiguity/the unknown and having The Shape not be controlled by the cult and Thorn and having them show that by The Shape slaughtering the entire cult) and especially the Thorn aspect (the worst part, trying to tie that in to The Shape was a bad idea, would have worked better if the cult had the Druidic aspect separate from the Shape and them acting separate, like a coven that sees The Shape as essentially the spirit of Halloween, but has no actual ties to him/it) are anti-Halloween (the series, not the holiday). I think if the occult stuff was mainly background and not so tied to The Shape and mainly just enhancing the holiday aspect of the film, it would have worked. Daniel Farrands meant well, and did something I would have done when younger and try to explain everything and make a detailed plot about that, but that just goes entirely against the simplicity of the original, and fear of the unknown aspect. The more information and background you give the viewer (and give to the antagonist force) the more power they have and the more power is taken away from the antagonist force, as it suddenly now has rules it needs to abide by and limitations.
-Even with the film as is and accepting the Thorn aspect in it, the whole constellation thing was over the top.
-While I think J.C. Brandy did well, I think Jamie’s end would have been far more powerful if Danielle Harris played the part. Seeing her slammed into the thresher and then it turned on so she dies a horribly painful death would have been a real gut punch and would have shown just how evil The Shape is more than any other moment in the entire series.
-Would have much preferred the end credits end with the piano rendition of the Halloween theme I previously mentioned. I’ve come to accept the Brother Cain song, but a Halloween film should end on an actual score piece.
-The head explosion was over the top. Unfortunately how the kill ended in the tv and p-cuts wasn’t ideal either with how it was shot.
-This goes along with my plot complaints, but I’ll add it anyway. Dr. Wynn being a main antagonist just seemed random and out of place given how we saw him in the original, and Mitch Ryan didn’t really seem like the same actor in any way (neither would Farrands’ original choice in Christopher Lee). This is another case of trying to tie so many things in together, it’s very comic book-y.
-Paul Rudd was a bit over the top.
-That’s all I can think of. I love the entire atmosphere of VI and how evil and boogeyman like The Shape is in it, but it does have its’ faults.
The best part of H6 is definitely the atmosphere! It has the best Fall/Halloween feel to it next to H4. I also love when Mrs. Blankenship is telling the backstory of Halloween. The biggest dislike, like everyone else has said, is the whole cult thing.
