Watching the series, in the earlier films they make Haddonfield to be a small, sleepy town in the middle of the state. Then, starting with Halloween 6 they start making Haddonfield a suburb of Chicago. In the Rob Zombie films I can’t tell. Which do you prefer…a small sleepy town in the middle of nowhere or a suburb of Chicago.
A small suburban town in southern Illinois, likely in Jackson County. Carbondale has a college campus like H6 Haddonfield and a population of only 27,000 and the town of Murphysboro right next to it has a population of around 8,000. Both towns are close enough to Hardin County for the Hardin mentions in the series, both are far enough from Warren County for an overnight drive, both are near both forest and farmland.
I’d have to go with a small sleepy town in the middle of nowhere as well. Haddonfield is the birthplace of evil and should have that isolated feeling from the rest of the world.
HaHa definately small creepy vibe…I noticed that in Part 6…I live in Southern Illinois and these small town fit the bill…I might be wrong but Carpenter is from Ohio and had relatives around some of this area and liked the vibe…I wish there was a Haddonfield LOL!!! I know ya guys don’t live here but Southern Illinois and Northern Illinois are like night and day…They have tried for years to break it up like North and South Carolina etc…I think Carpenter was definately going for the small town vibe and not a huge suburb…Thanks for listening to me rant haha!!
John Carpenter grew up in Bowling Green, Kentucky and he basically grew up knowing a small town life. There is nothing more frighting than a small little town where someone just snaps for no apparent reason; in the suburbs you kinda expect it.
From sixth grade on a grew up in a small little town called Clinton, Il. The population there was 8500. Everyone knew everyone and it had the same amenities as Haddonfield. The town had a house that everyone believed was haunted. Same types of people, same type of culture. 4 hours from both the top and bottom of the state and 3 hours plus across…basically the dead center of the state almost.
Bowling Green is only 90 miles from Hardin County Illinois as well, and Russellville Kentucky is 25 miles from Bowling Green (which is in Warren County, though Illinois has a Warren County as well) It’s always cool to see how the threads come together.
