I noticed that upon reviewing my 4k copy, attached the photo here. What got me was the curve to the heel which is similar on both. I’m thinking that ToTs was told the knife used in kills was an 8" Farberware and they bought the edgekeeper, molded it, and used it for production since the standard or “classic” version is no longer made.
I think something like that happened with TOTS too. I can’t find another one of those Fiberware knives anywhere. I found a Fiberware that is very close but the bolster is just slightly wider. Maybe made in a different factory.
Darn. The edgekeeper is pretty close, but of course collectors/fans like us always want the exact one. Thanks for all the research and work you put into this community!
I first posted about the two knives I thought where in kills back in November when a member asked if a Lamson was used in the movie. I tried to explain the difference between the Farberware knives. The posts after focused on the Aubrac knife. Glad to see new posts about the knives. Now that I know how to add a photo it’s easier to show what I’m trying to say. Glad to help. In this photo is the other Farberware I found. It’s a match except the bolster is slightly thicker. I found both on ebay, I have not seen any since.
So jury is still out on the one with the thinner heel. He is checking for them but in the meantime he found stock of the other one with a slightly thicker heel, so I ordered a few of those. After getting it and doing some comparison pics I’m not entirely sure they used the thinner version. I did a side by side. What are everyone’s thoughts? Doing some more comparisons with the pics of the molded version in Michael Smallwoods eye, then popping in my 4K for other potential comparisons.
I think the middle photo matches the right photo better, taking in account of the shadow along the blade in front of the bolster in the middle photo.
If you check out the bonus features on the 4k the prop knives seem to vary in bolster area, if you check the scene of the eye stab before Michael removes his hand from the knife it has a very thick bolster and the handle is a cylinder shape. I think the best comparison would be to the scene when the knife is hanging on the wall before Michael takes it. I think that might be the real knife hanging on the magnetic holder.
