Ive been in the hobby for about 4-5 years now and I see the 98 Proto hailed alot as the “one” to have. Im just curious what makes it more desirable over the 75K or even a Creep because to my eye all 3 look about the same.
I guess it’s more so that people keep recommending the 98 Proto as the myers mask to have. I remember the Creeps were huge deals like the Proto, they still are, but I believe it’s all about the lineage. Something about the Proto being a recast of a don post 98 Proto mask that has the 1975 Kirk features. The 75k is still a popular mask, but I definitely noticed they were more popular when I joined the forums, the 75k castle was the must have!

98 proto is a recast from a Don post 98 mask which is a retool / recast of a genuine 1975 Kirk mask. So it’s essentially a copy of a copy of the real thing. Same goes for the 75k, but I think that might be a copy of a copy of a copy, so 98 photo has less ‘copies’ to it. I might not be 100% correct on the 75k, but the 75k definitely does have lineage to an original Kirk mask, same as the 98 photo.
It’s lineage.
There’s the original 1975 Kirk of course, but the actual 98 Kirk prototype master is a legit pull from an actual 1975 Kirk mold.
That prototype master was either molded which created the 3 or 4 “98 protos” that are in private collector hands (see attached lineage chart), or those also came from the same mold. That part I’m not sure on but I’d imagine Colby or Josh could clear that up.
The 98 Proto by NAG is a direct cast of one of those 3 or 4 that I mentioned, again you can see the exact lineage in the attached chart.
That being said, the vast majority of nicks masks are derive from that Proto that he bought. Those are also attached on the chart. While the 98 Proto is an amazing choice, my personal advice would be to check out the variants of it that he offers and pick which one you like best. There are a ton of choices as you can see! Lol

As someone with a relatively small head, which of the high end mask is best suited to me in your alls opinion?
I got a TOTS 78 rehaul and it was just too big…
Im looking for something good for a 22-23 inch head…
(High end meaning proto etc)
