Don Post to the rescue with new “Halloween” Mask
Posted on June 8, 2011 by Brian Bohnert

Thanks to legendary mask and prop guru Don Post, fans of the original Halloween will soon be treated to a piece of history … or at least a replica of one.

Soon to come from Don Post Studios is a new look at the classic Michael Myers mask from John Carpenter’s 1978 slasher flick that made Jamie Lee Curtis (and babysitters across the globe) famous.

Named the ”Michael Myers Mask – 2011,” it is a deluxe, full, over-the-head mask that is said to be the closest resemblance to the original latex Captain Kirk mask from the first film.

Back on September 15, 2010, the Halloweenmovies website posted a short blurb about how Post was hired by Trancas International Films to bring Myers fans “the most accurate mask on the market.” With that story came a few pictures of the inital scuplt.

And, personally, I started drooling when I saw them.

Then, we were treated to a better look at the product on October 25, 2010 when the site surfaced pics of what looked like a finished prototype.

But, since then, there has been no more updates on the mask dealing with release dates, prices, etc. That is, until I saw the mask posted on the Halloweenmovies.com Store page. While there is currently no pre-order information up, the sight of the mask at the store alone is promising.

Let’s just hope it’ll be done before October so I’ll have something to wear with my bloody coveralls!

Let me know what you think. Does this give the original a run for its money?

SINCE DON POST IS OUT OF BUSINESS I’M GUESSING IT WAS NEVER A FINISHED ON THE SHELF MASK MAKING IT HARD TO FIND TODAY ITS SAD TO SEE A GREAT SCULPT AND PICTURES OF THE END RESULT LOOK TERRIBLE AS WE GUESSED :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

Don Post went out of business. That’s probably why it never come to be. It’d of probably got ruined anyways. It’s too bad that TOT studios doesn’t have the rights to the H1 mask. They’d surely release a H1 mask that was more real looking to the Character of Michael Myers. Like they did with their HII mask.

The mask was released before Don Post went out of business back in the end of 2012. It turned out like crap…just like the rest of their Myers masks. Now Rubies took over the license and is producing the same mask.

Yea I would have to say when DP went out of business that was it. The guy was working for a company that owned the Don Post Studios name for years and it was eventually discontinued :frowning: Ultimately the main owner didn’t want to spend the extra money to make nice masks, really sad.

I’m not sure if it was released, but it was in Don Post Studios’ 2012 catalog before they closed, and was premeired at Mask Fest with the Halloween III masks.

Sweet Jesus that is god awful did son post just keep getting worse as they released them? No wonder they are know more.

I was lucky enough to have one of those gems in my local Halloween Spirit store.
It looked almost exactly like the Mask-Fest picture, but they didn’t spray the hair.
The eyecuts weren’t fully cut out either, which did strike me as odd, but I assumed it was DP being half assed as always.

its still better than most of the junk they put out
rip-don post

They used to put some real nice masks out back in the 70’s and early 80’s the 1975 Captain Kirks and Spocks being good examples of how DPS seemed to care about how their products looked regardless of the cheap materials they used back then, at least their masks resembled what they were meant to then we had the DP84 and DP85 and again decent little masks then it all went pair shaped after that pretty much, was it just a case of they are financially sound so didn’t need to care anymore or what ? i do understand about the average consumer just wanting a cheap latex mask for the one occasion but that concept was still the same back in the day so again what went wrong?

I will always be greatful to the independent artists in this community who have brought us some real quality accurate masks over the years.
